i was like 99% sure it was 16
and today our pshe teacher said it was 18
i didn't wanna turn around and say 'actually it's 16' because i'd dig myself into an awkward situation at school, even moreso than i am in atm (don't ask lol)

Assuming your in England, you quite right its 16. Although it did used to be 18 not to long ago, the government brought the age in to line with that of heterosexual sex back in 2000.

Well according to "Live Life Large" (stupidest thing ever that we all got handed out at school)...
"The earliest age you can legally have sex with the opposite sex is 16. Sex between two males is legal at 16 years (the same for a male and a female). The law does not say anything specifically about sexual relationships between two women (lesbian relationships)."

Whilst the age of consent has been lowered to 16 there is a new act which is called 'abuse of trust'. This means anybody in a position of trust such as a teacher, care worker, priest etc etc is restrained from having a relationship with a young person between the age of 16 - 18 who in their school, care or parish and can still be prosecuted for it. This exception was introduced because of fears of grooming and sexual exploitation because of their status.

The age of consent in the uk is 16, for everyone.
