Have any of you been noticing your internet going slower over the past few days? On Thursday the internet was unbarable for me (check my sig pic)

Is it just stupid Virgin or is it happening to all ISP's? I'm currently going on around 120kbps and it's just unbarable.

Do you agree that ISP's are taking the up to statement too far?

You do realise its your computer set up that normally lets you down?
and your line..

they say they can give you 8 meg speeds, if you line can handle it.

All lines around my area can take upto 9 meg, so im on 8 meg getting the most of it,

my speeds are fine,

It's got nothing to do with that. when we complaned to them about it they gave us 6mb speed even at peak times. Just now it's worse than it was before. It's got nothing to do with my computer setup.

It's not likely that there would be a setting on a home computer to control internet speeds.

Well what do you think? I wasn't asking advice, I was seeing if it was only me or other people. Of course i've contacted virgin, months ago! They made my broadband faster for a little while and now it's three times worse than before.

ADSL

and for those who are voting no because they're getting a good internet speed please read the question. It says if you think isp's are using the term "up to" too much.

They say up to.. Because they are providing broadband with up to ammount,

if you line cannot support it, or there is a problem in your area, then ofc they cant supply full knock..

But thats the thing, they can go up to at least 6mbps in my area because when we complained they put the speed up for a while and then it suddenly dropped down again.

I know that they can't sustain a certain speed the whole time but if someone pays for it they should at least get what their line can handle.

Virgin made a bad move taking over so many company's at once without thinking about the extra load they'd be putting onto their servers. Don't say oh they will have bought new servers because I can tell they didn't. It all started to get worse the first week they became virgin media.

Just ring them mate.. honestly.. it may be a sync issue with your set up, or somthing their end, but the only way your gonna find out is by contacting them.

Get whoever owns the Broadband account to logon to their website and check the package if you're not sure about the speed you're meant to be getting.

Metric.

if you read the fine print with your isp it says "up to" such and such a speed. You may live in an area where there are a lot of people on that network, how far you are away from the main line or how long the cable from your modem to your pc is.

 Read the thread plzzz, it saves time. The whole thread is partially to do with the "up to" and i'm on wireless currently connected at 54mbps which could easily maintain an 8mbps internet speed.

2011kb/s download, 300kb/s upload.

Its fine. When I download torrents I get insanely low speeds, even with good seeds (50ish at best).
Although I think thats my settings.
A wireless network where I have low signal doesn't either :)
