British Airways plane has crash landed at Heathrow Airport, hitting the ground several hundred yards short of the runway and narrowly missing a busy road.More than 150 people were forced to dive off the Boeing 777 down inflatable chutes and onto the tarmac as emergency services rushed to the scene.
BA flight 38 had been landing in London after flying from Beijing.
Pictures of the crashed plane show the aircraft's mangled undercarriage - as if it had slid across the ground.
Serious damage is visible to the right engine and to both wings and the plane is surrounded by fire engines and a sea of firefighting foam.
Scotland Yard said: "There is nothing to suggest at this stage that the incident is in any way terror-related."
Sky correspondent David Bowden, who is at Heathrow, said: "It looks as though... if something did go very wrong with this plane, it must have happened at the very last minute.
"No emergency was declared. There simply wasn't enough time."
Bowden added: "Air traffic control didn't know this was happening until it was too late."
Incredibly, only six passengers on the crashed plane have needed hospital treatment for minor injuries, London Ambulance Service said.
After a temporary halt to flights, air traffic controllers now say planes are taking off and landing on the airport's northern runway.
There are, however, many delays, with some planes diverted to other London airports.
The Prime Minister's flight to China was among those stuck on the runway after the drama.
On board, is Sky's political editor Adam Boulton, who said Mr Brown (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/fc/gordon-brown.html) remained calm and joked: "Well you have got your story already then."
Sky producer Jonathan Levy said security at Heathrow was already higher than normal, both because of Gordon Brown (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/fc/gordon-brown.html)'s flight and because the Qatari royal family were due to pass through the airport.
Mr Brown's flight has now taken off safely.

I love how ironic it is that Gordon Brown was just about to leave on a plane to China at Heathrow airport, and that the plane in the incident had just came back from China.
Terrorism is pretty much ruled out, but it's not impossible, perhaps the terrorists thought he was coming back from Beijing and not going? :P
Ahh well it delayed the PMs Flight anyway, I suppose that'll have to do, though a terrorism attack on him would of done nicely.

Looks like the Pilot had no warning and lost power in both engines. I say well done to the pilot, if happened before many people will be dead due to the built up area around Heathrow.

Plane crashes can be traumatizing. If I ever see you are in one and are either dead/(seriously) injured i will laugh at you and see how you like it. Idiot. Show some respect.
That was extremely lucky that they managed to land and not kill thousands of people in London. Hats off to the pilots!

i find it quite mad how you would wish a terrorist attack both on the PM and the UK. After all, a terrorism attack on him here is an attack in the UK, and as he's always with people would have caused a lot of other people to die? That's really sick. Good on the pilot of the plane. Glad the injuries were only minor.I don't plan on beginning a Iraq debate, but in my eyes Gordon Brown is a terrorist, he's responsible for hundreds if not thousands of deaths in the second Gulf War, some of those are British Soldiers. I understand the war in a Iraq was due to Tony Blair, but Gordon Brown supported Blair's decision and isn't exactly pulling the troops out quickly, fair enough we've took a thousand out of Basra but there's plenty left.

Jordy: Like my mum say, All parties lie, we most likely of gone to war over there anyway.
Back on topic, The main cabin area where passengers are, Looks in pretty good condition, That's mostly due why no one was really hurt and shows how strong the frame is. The most damage is on the belly, landing gear, wings etc.
"BA said one of those injured had a broken leg."
"I could hear the undercarriage come out, and the next moment the plane just dropped," Mr Venter said.
Chief executive of BA Willie Walsh said he was "very proud" of the crew and the Boeing 777 was an "excellent aircraft"

What you fail to understand is that the circumstances could have been very different and many people if not all could have been killed.
What if the plane hadn't have made it into the airports permiter, it could have hit buildings! They also risked the factor of the plane exploding wether it made it into the airfield or not.
So i fail to see how you think it's funny.

Just watched the news and it was only 15 feet from hitting a busy road with 6 lanes just outside the terminal. It was a very lucky escape, they don't know yet but it's rumoured to be that both engines failed which is incredibly rare.
When on Flight Simulator and you screw up a landing do you start hating yourself or something and say 'AMGZZZ, IF THAT WAS IN REAL LIFE I COULD OF KILLED LOTS OF PEOPLE'

Also wonder if adam has heard the news because if i am right he is still in america. This has not put me off flying one bit how many planes takeoff and land out of heathrow a day?and take off and land fine
It's been all over the news here in Florida, it'd be hard to not know.
I don't see a problem with "jokes" because the incident didn't kill. It's fine people saying well this could have happened etc, the thing is those things didn't happen nobody is dead and everybodys fine.
Both engines failed to respond to demands for thrust, which is very strange, something which certainly requires investigation, however, 777's are very safe as is any other aircraft.
Some of you take things far to seriousally, even the flight crew have been heared joking about it.. You really need to get a grip, people are going to joke about such .
How bored am I, on holiday, 1:24am and I just wrote that.. MMMMM!

I think the plane crew did a fantastic job with the evacuation and even the crash landing. To think what could have happened if the plane crashed into another plane or a building or if it caught on fire/exploded, what actually happened was quite a miracle IMO.

On airliners.net there was a post about the stupidest story and it involved an EMP {??} and terrorists.

Good job I flew Boeing here and i'll be flying Boeing home too...
Why would you be scared? Nothing to worry about, there are thousands of car crashes everyday where people die, so you also get scared of going in a car? Flying is the safest form of transport there is.
No crash will ever put ever put me off flying. Always pays to pay your full attention to safety demo videos ;)

Why?
at the end of the day Coward is a Hero:)
Yeah Adam! is right, Flying is the safest transport and is getting safer.
But to have a chance of crashing the fact is you need to fly at least twice a day for 4 years or something to have a 50% chance of a accident.
Anyway this is leading to arguments so im going to close now.
