Tbh its down to personal taste. Go to your local music shop and ask them to play a couple of guitars in your price range and see if you like the sound of them ect and ask them what they think would be the best. Personally Squires are quite good and there cheap.

get electric (y)
nahhh. you should always get acoustic before an electric.
but i'd recommend ovation. i've got one, and this girl in my school who's been writing her own songs for 5 years always plays hers

I've +Reped people that have suggested makes, unfortunately they are American guitars and I couldn't find anywhere in the UK that sell them.
Can anyone tell me what I should look for in an acoustic guitar?
Or just go by what soudns best to me?

i'll probably get a lot of opposition to this, but acoustic guitars aren't as diverse as electric. they all have the same basic structure, and you're bound to find an at least decent one for cheap. so yeah, i would definitely say go by sound and feel.
