Now, before I start this rant, this is a serious post, and I would not a load of bad comments in this thread!
----------
My rant starts at the point of, how many people are too concerned with their post count, and are spamming up the forum, with useless threads, useless posts, and moderators, are taking hardly any action towards this issue.
Yes, sorting this issue, could cause a loss of users, due to the fact they cannot get their posts up fast enough, or a loss of reputation because of the forums vast post mounts.
But, if we look through a lot of the threads within the forum, you'll find,
short useless posts, which, are basically just used to gain a post count.
My Suggestions
I believe there a few ways this can be brought to a stop, or, a decrease in useless post counts.
A, post count limit per person.
The ability to vote if the post is useful or not, if it gets say, 10 no's, it should be deleted from the thread, and the person recieves a warning for useless posting.
A higher minimum on the post character limit.
I hope this is taken into consideration.

i think the current system is fine, theres nothing wrong with having a high number next to 'post count'. it doesnt change anyones life does it?
if they spam, they get warned and infracted. if they continue they get banned.

No, but, people are spamming pointlessely and aren't recieving punishment for it.

I agree. I don't care about post count. But some people do. Problem is when they Spam it makes the forum look ugly in parts. It's annoying when your browsing through a popular thread and most of the replys are not relevant and a defined as spam.

No, but, people are spamming pointlessely and aren't recieving punishment for it.maybe its because moderators cant do a lot about it, except report to super-mods.
usually we edit posts with a warning telling them not to continue to spam, if they carry on then we report to a smod with evidence of it and they get a more harsh punishment.

that was hardly contributing to the topic was it?
i'd like to add: the vote idea would just make people vote a thumbs-down for people they dont like on the forum even if the post was spam. a moderators perception is fine for detecting spam.

Are there any examples you wish to share? To be honest, it's a social forum and always has been. Habbox Forum has never been a business/super strict forum and I sure hope it never does.
As REDNECK has said, posts are dealt with and if you cannot be bothered to use the report post button, then they won't be sorted out. Besides, post counts don't mean anything, and although you say you don't care, you seem to if you are worried about people pointlessly posting.

Most of your posts are pointless i reckon.
But you know how to construct them so they appear not to be!
You really are obsessed with this forum.

I like 2. and 3. but not 1. however, I have noticed some moderators spamming too and they're supposed to enforce the rules, not break them..

I think it's fine how it is; Person spams, mod gives them an infraction. They continue then they get banned. If I see somebody spamming, I report it. It's usually dealt with quickly! ;)
Just going to add, about the post counts; If somebody spams to get a higher post count, they regard post counts as some sort of 'title', if you get me. So their pride and joy post count goes up from spamming, so do the infractions. Eventually they'll be banned or warned to stop - so problem solved.
@ Above, if you report a moderator then they'll be like LOL.

Honestly does it matter that much? There are rules in place to govern short answers and posts not relevant to threads so they just need reporting in the usual way.
Some people just like to post a lot - simple as that - its not as if it means a lot. Quality is more important than quantity as far as I am concerned although I do post in forum games sometimes myself.
It doesn't spoil my enjoyment of the forum though. If someone is excessively spamming it becomes obvious very quickly.

With your last comment it does become obvious and the moderators or admins deal with it, so all is well! :D
I have to admit, since the new moderators were introduced many more threads are being dealt with quicker, which is logical. :P

One - That would never happen because some people do make a lot of genuine posts in a day and this would cause restricted access to the forums.
Two - People would vote spam on members they hate. I know for a fact this would happen.
Three - Forum games do not require more than 6 characters per post a lot of the time.

I think it's fine how it is; Person spams, mod gives them an infraction.
No no no no, we do not give infractions or warnings for spamming/pointless posts. There was a time when the spam forum was closed and at that time some smods gave out warnings for pointless posts instructed by the forum management, but only until the spam forum was open again, so if you got a warning for pointless posting on that day, that's fair.
But, if you've received a warning or infraction by a moderator recently for pointless posting, post in the Report Infraction Problems (link in my signature) and we'll look into it and remove it if that's the reason you received it.
They continue then they get banned.
Indeed. Repeated amount of pointless posting can result in a temporary ban, by pointless posts, I mean posts that aren't saying anything towards another post or about the thread topic. For example, saying "LOL!", "Yeah." "No. "Hmm".
Here is the rule with more examples:
B2. Don't post short or meaningless posts / spam - We don't want replies like "i dono" or "why" or "yeah". We have set the forum so that any message must contain at least 9 characters, do not try to get around this by adding meaningless characters.
If you notice someone spamming a lot, when you report a spam post, mention that they've been doing it a lot or private message a smod and we'll review their account's posts. ;)

I think it is hard to be stricter against people posting a lot of short messages. Some short messages are with the best intentions, we can't ask our moderators do decide which people should be punished for posting a short message, and which not.
Maybe it would be nice if we could set a limit to the amount of short post one person can make per day, but this is not an option in vBulletin. We can only set a minimum lenght per post for everybody, and I think this is already set up fine.

Spam is annoying definitely (if its done in the wrong places). Spam forum is for all the spam.
We could increase the minimum characters per post, thats a good idea however we cannot do any of the other suggestions on vBulletin.
The best thing to do is report any users in the Report rule breakers forum and an smod/admin will take care of it from there. Its very important you supply links as well.

Yeah, it can also be in normal posts. So let's see:
Forum with 6 character limit gets a spam post: lol...
Mod edits the post.
Forum with 12 character limit gets a spam post: lol.........
Mod edits the post.
Same thing happens! They bypass it both times, just using more characters. The mod will still edit/warn the user in both cases so is there really a point in upping the character limit?

Yes but lots of people including higher management don't use more words than necessary. In the welcome forum especially why isn't welcome or Hiya enough. It's positive and quite honestly the rest is just a form of lingunistic garnish. Spam would probably be LOL, Go away or bog off! :D

Well yes that's what I use but if you don't know the person it's hard to
really post a meaningful message so 'Welcome' is just fine in my view and certainly wouldn't merit a pm or anything.

On a serious note though there is a lot of spamming on the Habbox Site that should be looked into.
The news is good but the comments on the articles are just mainly rubbish. Perhaps these should be moderated?
Example:
Good article on credits followed by complete spam.

I agree, that's exactly right. Short and positive and constructive comments that are still in some way adding yourself to the topic or another post is fine, but the "LOL" is just pointless and the "Go away!" Or "Bog off!" Would also be posting rude and unproductive comments.

I agree with Catzsy here, and I may add, some forums are more strict with this type of thing than others. With the forum I used to moderate before this one, they used to really crack down on spam and off topic comments, I guess it's just with the forum culture, and the opinions of the management.

It's a forum, forums are supposed to be posted on. If post count is removed a lot of people will not doubt leave as they enjoy having high post counts. As sad as it is, I remember when I first joined on my other account in 2004. I used to love my reputation and post count, it used to encourage me to post more which is good for the forum.
If you're unhappy with pointless posts, report them to a forum moderator and they will be dealt with.
