View Full Version : Lottery winners who don't spend all of their winnings

The greatest people who win the lottery are the ones who just ignore winning the money, like the £19,000,000 winner of Saturday's lottery:

Is an aortic aneurism curable? :S
Anyway, this is what the small majority of lottery winners do - they ignore the fact they won the money, and carry on with their lives. I just hate those who go "OH MY GOD I WON THE LOTTERY *SPEND SPEND SPEND*"
This is what more lottery winners should be like. :)

I disagree. What's the point in ignoring the money. Atleast spend some of it.

why should they? they should do what they want as long as they are enjoying themselves and not harming anyone else.

No, what I meant was that people who just ignore the fact they've won the lottery and just carry on with normal life.
There was an elderly couple who won I think £2,000,000 on the lottery and have never spent one penny of it.
Sorry if I didn't make it clear in the first post. :)

Sorry if I didn't make it clear in the first post. :)yeah but thats silly. you were saying 'more people should do it', so i was saying that they can do what they want with it. its not 'better' to not spend a penny rather than buy loads of stuff.

if you read the article it does say they can cure it but it needs to be a certain size.

Whats point in having 19million if your not gunna spend it, shed rather give it back and get health? Well she can't, so she might aswell spend it.

Whats point in keeping it, spend it on things you want, it's there to be used. lol.

I think there was a survey carried out a while ago that said something like 5% of all major lottery winners carry on in employment.
Or something along the lines of that.
I do know that there was a postman and a milkman who won the lottery and they continued doing their jobs.
It's really a matter of persepctive on whether you see the lottery as positive or negative.

What's the point ignoring it? If that's the case, why bother even entering.

I think that's wrong as well, using cash as a back-bone to your life.

Wouldn't buy a ticket if you thought it was a bad thing...

Its ignorant. If you don't want the money, give it elsewhere.

Tbh we should leave them alone (lottery winners), regardless of what they do. It's their money, and you've got to be in it to win it, and if you dont, dont criticize those who do.

People saying whats the point having it and not spending it.
Spend some not go wild like a saddo most lottery winners are like.
Thinking they can do whatever they want.

Save half or more than half to pass down while your gone so the rest of your future family can benifit.

Something you should never do when you win the lottery is tell everyone, including some friends and some family. Not because you become a prime target to be mugged or robbed, it's because you will begin the see to insides of the people you know. They practically begin begging to you and will drop at hints at every instance possible. 'Oh we're getting a new extension soon, it's really breaking the bank, I have no idea what to do and how we're going to pay for it' - Hints like that :P

I haven't won the Lotto obviously, but I've read that in at least two books, and I think it's very sensible.

I'd tell my close family and a few of friends, however I wouldn't say I'd won the lottery to anyone else, you'd lose your friends and they'd begin begging :P

i'd tell my friends at school and i wouldnt care if anyone else found out, im clever enough to know when people are acting different than they usually should

people should do what they want with their money.

but seeing as much of the world's economy is in a questionable state, the patriotic thing would be to indulge.

I think most people would be 'SPEND SPEND SPEND' I think that's partly why people do the lottery is it not?

The people who carry on with their 'normal lives' do so probably because they find out that money doesn't bridge every gap and fix every problem in ones life.

I wouldn't go mad on spending, I'd like pay off the house of course, buy some new things which I need around the house and then just leave the money, not let the money run my life.

I'd spend whatever I wanted, I'd live off the interest.

If my family won the lottery we'd either move house for a nicer house although our house is excellent Victorian archtecure anyway :) or we'd rip out all the current things in the house and have the whole thing done up, new plastering, new skirting boards, new doors the whole lot because there's certain bits we don't like such as some of the white wooden panelling going around the living room walls :)

I believe it said that he would give it all up to be healthy, it didn't directly mention that he isn't spending it.

I think it's stupid to splash out a vast majority of the winnings as soon as it's won (for example, Michael Carroll - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Carroll_%28lottery_winner%29 (although this guy is now a 'changed man'. And good for him.)) but to continue life normally, without spending much of it at all is silly too.

I'd just spend in moderation, enjoy myself and put a bundle away in the bank to gain interest.
