View Full Version : New Plane Developed by Reaction Engines - The A2
---MAD---

The A2 is able to go at speeds of Mach 4 to Mach 8 (concorde could achieve just over Mach 2). It will carry 300 passengers and able to travel long distance flights ie UK to sydney. That would take an average of 18-22 hours on a normal plane. In this plane it will take 2-4 hours!
Whats more amazing is that this plane will run on hydrogen - making it future proof.
The plane is still in concept but should be operational in 25 years. The plane is twice the length of a big Jumbo and looks like a rocket.

It will carry 300 listeners you mean passengers? :P
sounds pretty amazing actually, twice the length of a jumbo is absolutely massive but i presume it wouldnt take very long to take off at that speed :O

Oooo that sounds quite the beast :P I can see people being frightened to go on it until someone mentions about safety issues. Also, before someone embarasses the chutney out of you, you put listeners instead of travellers/passengers :)

That's mind-boggling fast for a passenger plane. I think I'll wait 'til it's had a few years of successful flights before I step on board. :P

Hydrogen lol? Although hundreds would die and it would be a tragic event etc, I would love to see that blow up in the sky; it'd be like a fireball.

Rofl. Mit I have to ask you, are you a terroist or just an explosion fanatic.
In the paper it said to Australia it would take 4Hours 40Mins ;o

Lol, it's crap though if it'll only be developed in 25 years - we'll all be 80 by then.

Tbh i think its gonna be more 35 years then 25 years, Everything is later now a days.

I head about this on the radio this morning, 1 single ticket will also cost almost £4000.

Sounds like an interesting aircraft. They should keep researching on this type of aircraft for any future of supersonic travel. Like the Concorde.

Its only like a grand at the moement to a ticket there, so i wouldnt say its a massive increase considering how long it takes.

Not really, there will be soo much to do with this. Not just the aircraft, but airports will need to be made bigger for it.

Sounds... fast?
I'll stick to JET2 for now.

That's faster than most fighter aircrafts by a reasonable amount, however I imagine in 25 years time, most fighter jets will be a lot quicker.
It looks very very streamlined and fast, sorta like something from the Thunderbirds :P

Just looked at the picture above is that an actual picture of what it should look like? if so where are the windows :(

The image above, will not be the final design it is just a computer made one. Anything could change on it within the next 25 years.
well i think the first step is to make normal planes use hydrogen,
its easily accessible and is clean. makes sense :P
jesus £4000, screw the planet im not paying that much lol

:O how will the pilots see where their going ???? Unless theres like shutters or something that come up and down... I'd feel really claustrophobic with out windows :(

The windows thing may change and all that, its not even classed as a final design yet.
omg lol thats weirdddd.. freaky.. It feels like the future lol. and why 25 years???

Just remember Military Tech is 25 years in advance to what's made public. We probably have all the components ready to make it, just the design issues and contracts need to be fixed.

Some how i doubt it, the UK's defense is way worse then your led to belive.
Air deffense being one of the worst.

I meant more of the USAF. The U2, SR72, B2, F117 and the new one's their lining up are way ahead of the time they were planned.

Super fast plane + super large aircraft filled with hydrogen = disaster.
And I'm kinda concerned that it has the same amount of wheels as an A380. Surely that beast would take a hell of a lot more to get it down nice 'n safe.
Then again I don't know a lot about aviation, so maybe someone should educate me on the matter :D

tbh I swear you would have to have a REALLY explosion proof method of burning the hydrogen and even then I wouldn't use that plane it would worry me haha

i heard the wings on the plane flap when taking off (like a bird)

The Hydrogen fuel thing, well in the next 20 years or so. We could be able to use hydrogen safe without any problems. Who knows, time will tell.

Wow thats really great. Two big problem with concorde is the limited passenger capacity and emissions.
Hope it comes into service soon!

The 4 hours 40 minutes estimated flight time is from Belgium International.
Wonder if they will ever fly it from the UK or if it will be too expensive to expand airports.
it the way to travel :P
on a random note BA going to be flying an A318 from london City Airport to JFK with a fuel stop at Shannon just shows thing are changing :D
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x203/danielgreen77/hypersonic_plane_eu.jpg
being power by hydrogen hopefully meaning cheaper flights?
i would love to go in this tbh

The computer can actually do a full flight from takeoff to landing, the pilots could easily do a landing though as they would be slow enough to open up metal shields to see through windows. Then they would have to taxi but your only allowed to taxi at a certain low speed anyway.
But I won't be one of the first people on this plane. Although, the Concorde got off to a bad start but that was through no fault of its own.

The Concorde was a great aircraft. This A2 may not even come yet, you all asking questions about how would they see and all that, all you have seen is a computer made image, the final design will be very different.

It would slow down, obviously. Current planes do not land at 600kmph either you know ;).

I agree, concorde was a great aircraft. I do think it will still have a similar rocket feel to it though if its go that fast ;).
