View Full Version : Idea.. When banning someone

When you ban someone, remove all their permissions and only let them view one private forum where they can apeal their ban without making another account and spamming up the feedback forum.
In the forum that they can view, you could make it like the "report serious rule breaking" forum were you can only view and reply to your own thread and admins can see them all.
Just an idea. Would that be easyer than having to wait 4/5 days for a reply from the contact us? This way all the admins could deal with it when their browsing through the forums instead of just one or two members of the forum management logging into an email account every couple of days.

Great idea. It would stop other users from going 'OMG U SHUDNT BE APPEALIN U DESERVED IT' and cluttering up the threads they make. :P

Nice idea indeed! Although I don't plan to get myself banned, if I was banned this would be helpful!

As ironic as it is, I actually was thinking about it. I just dismissed it and didn't bring it up to be possibley implemented - I shall be doing now. :)

He nicked it from the Council section off of a couple of ideas put forward by jrh/Smiddy and developed it into a more practical idea. :P
I was browsing through there earlier and picked up on a few ideas very similar to this one, the only issue would be to make sure that the entire contents of the threads in the 'Ban Dispute' section were kept entirely private and the banned member didn't post the ban justification anywhere else on the Forum on another account because it would essentially be posting private or sensitive information that would normally be confined to the Contact Us system. The idea could also be extended to temporary bans too, e.g. in the case of spammers who haven't broken enough rules to earn a permanent ban and want to potentially justify their actions.
I'm all for it at the moment. :)
Good idea ehehehehe - I'm liking the fact that admins agree :D - I haven't seen it in here for a while - 1 reason being some suggestions have been silly but yeah ;)

I don't read the council thing so don't acuse me of nicking anything tyvm :P. I did it when I first opened a site called Habbia but it was later removed as we only had three admins.

Despite the fact that you posted in the thread in the Council section about the auto ban feature. ;)
Thats not important at the moment though, the main point of this is that you've developed a good idea that could potentially work for Habbox and give banned members a chance to explain their bad behaviour, perhaps even have their ban lifted.

I came across that on the new post search and wasn't aware that it was in the council section. I think it's bloody awful that you would try to make out that I'm lying when all I'm trying to do is put foward my idea.
I'm not the sort of person who sits and reads through every post in a thread as I'm very inpatient and get bored easy. I just read the first post then a few others then make my own post. So even if I did read the thread it was in, I most likley wouldn't have read the post made by Jrh and Smiddy.
Get your act together and don't be so negative. This has probs stopped me from posting ideas I may have in the future now.

A very efficiant way of sorting things out!
I would definatly want to see thuis implemented :)

I remember PMing MAD a while ago with this very idea. He stated that the idea of a ban was to keep people off the forum and the creation of a scheme like this would cause problems like the forum getting spammed etc. They weren't the only reasons I can remember, although I like this idea it's just a word of warning of the possible reply.

Well as they would only be able to see this 1 forum it would hardly be an issue, we could create a second group "Extreme Ban" which would remove access to this forum should they spam it, thus removing any chance of them coming back at all maybe?

Great idea, I really agree on this one. I'd suggest everyone in ban groups can appeal via this unless they are in the permanent ban group and they cause issues by continually being abusive in the appeal section or by spamming it. In this case they would be banned in another group which could remove their access to viewing any forum at all like the normal permanently banned group today. At least we could then reconsider account bans and people could appeal against their bans which would make the whole system better. Also if people were getting a clear reply to all ban appeals then this would make things better and would allow people a method of contact regarding this instead of the contact us forum.
I certainly agree with this, it is a great idea as it makes dealing with ban appeals more straight forward for the user and the administration team as well as giving the user proof that the ban has been considered and how we feel about their appeal however we'd have to ensure strict rules were placed down to how often people can appeal and whatnot and anyone who broke these rules as I said above could be placed in a ban group in which they cannot see the appeal forums.
Overall it is a great concept and idea - I'm all for it. :)

also you have a secondy ban group incase the start spamming the forum so you move them and they cant appeal or do anything.

doesnt it seem too much for banning, i perfer the "ban, state reason, contact us otherwise"
this is so muc hassle specially when its not really needed. Just check emails more often.

Well I don't for one minute think Paul (Barkseh) knew we were discussing it in the Council Chamber and its a great idea of you both :) I fully support it too and its great to see so many higher ranking management and admins support to too. Also so nice to see forum and management working together so well:eusa_danc:eusa_clap

Exactly as Jack has said, it's actually unbelieveable the amount of emails that are sent in and replying the every single one becomes a daunting task. (We're talking 60+ emails a week) - It's for that exact reason that I check them every one or two days, to avoid having to write tonnes of replies in one day.
Also, Jrh, if you don't have a reply by now it means it didn't get there. (Given the amount of emails used to be 40-60 per day due to spam, alot of the emails now get filtered - This is why I'd be in support of this sytem)
