I just got back from watching it. Its OK, but the camera moves so much that it made me feel sick. I don't understand where the monster comes from either.

The monster is supposed to have been disturbed and come out of the water. It is scared so it unleashes havoc upon New York City because it doesn't know what's happening. The film is based on the story of Godzilla.

I didn't like how they showed the close up of it at the end, how something that big just suddenly appeared without making a noise. It kinda ruined the effect of not showing it much before then too.

This was a good movie. Its unique, something that hasn't been done much and quite realistic in the filming since the camera moves around a lot and isn't straight (which it would never be in a situation like that).

Obviously something things are taken to the extreme ie the guy gets killed yet the camera is fine.

I liked the end, it lets you come up with your own conclusions instead of setting one for everyone.

The first 20 minutes or so was a bit boring though but it let you know the characters a bit.

Has anyone seen the trailer for REC? The camera work is similiar to that of Cloverfield, and is done in a dramatic/realist way. I think it's a zombie film or something. I'm not sure whether Cloverfield got the concept from that film as I know it was released in Spain last year.

Whether it's going to be a subtitled film, I have no idea. But it looks good, check it out.

The handheld camerawork in Cloverfield is nothing original, it's been done many times before, but 2008 seems to be the year of the handycam feature film: There's Cloverfield, George A. Romero's -Of The Living Dead series' latest installment, Diary Of The Dead, and gritty crime thriller WAZ ('w' delta 'a').
