Flux; the online music orientated social network.

Introducing Project 'Flux', part of a new wave of social networks. Project 'Flux' is a website similar to the concept of already established sites such as MySpace, Facebook and Bebo but with a few important differences. (The most popular website which is most similar to Flux is Last.fm).

Most of the current social networks offer a form of basic music sharing and streaming but do not offer detailed services and features to allow users to completely distribute their tastes and musical preferences amongst their friends and other users. This is where Flux enters the equation. Flux offers a wide range of services so that users can express their musical feelings and/or talent with the entire user-base of the site within minutes. Users are also able to create their own profile and customise it as much as they desire with the advanced profile customisation tools.

Project Flux does not aim to be popular or successful but to simply offer teens and musicians a place to showcase their talent or musical preferences with the rest of the world within minutes for free whilst also communicating with their friends at the same time.

You may currently be thinking that this website sounds no different to websites like Last.fm or MySpace but we hope by the time the main features are developed and can be revealed we hope we are able to change your opinion.

If you think that this site may be in risk of legal issues then we are already brainstorming how to deal with copyright protection. One method we will be using is to encrypt the URLs to songs in a advanced way to prevent easy-download of the songs.

I hope to be able to provide you with more information about Project Flux in the near future, but as the project is in it's early-stages we are unable to offer a wide range of information about the site's features, etc.

If you wish to contact me about this project feel free to PM me on this Forum or post in this thread.

The first private alpha preview is expected to be available by late 2008/early 2009.

Thank you for taking your time to read about Project Flux.

It'll never go anywhere with last.fm now offering playable full free music tracks, you'd have to get a tonne of royalty crap from artists and labels.

also
just because i can

last.fm, lol.

last.fm, lol. It's a project, so it's mainly for me to get better at PHP. Also, I've already stated that I don't expect it to do well, it'll just be a very interesting project for me and a few people at my school. So yeah, well done for making a post that doesn't really add anything as you're just repeating what I've already said...

... ... don't you dare steal my font! :P

I spend a lot of time some days trying to find perfect fonts when I need them (like in this situation) and so I don't give the names of the fonts out as they get used too much and then look tacky so I can't use them anymore :(

"in a matter of minutes" I know its a marketing / w.e thing and all sites do it.. but have you ever heard of a sns taking a few MINUTES, or even hours to change something :P

With an average internet connection you will be able to create an account and upload at least one song within around 5-7 minutes max.

I like it but the issues are with the content issue. last.fm are doing a great job with content and you will only be able to really offer a 30 second clip unless you where to get record labels on your side and do revenue share.

There is a way to bypass copyright issues. In the terms of using the website you must clearly state that you hold no responsability for the songs on the site and they will be removed upon request of the owner of the track.

Hope that helped :P

Good luck with it...It's a lot of sites like these though...I read somewhere that MC Hammer is starting a site similar like that but its for music video sharing.
