View Full Version : [RDJP v4] Usernames/DJ Names

Hey Everyone,
I'm going over my plans for how v4 will be setup in terms of usernames/dj names/titles and that got me thinking.... do we really need a seperate username and dj name and should the dj name always have 'DJ' in front of it? If it shouldn't always have 'DJ' in front of it should each user be able to customize what goes before there dj name or should it be set by the admin or what?
Also, if there is both a username and dj name for each account what should be used in the panel? Should the username be used strictly for login purposes and the rest run on the dj name or what do you think would work best?
Note that if everything used your dj name instead of username for in-panel purposes then you wouldn't be able to change your dj name (at all).
Please let me know what you think as all opinions and suggestions are welcome.
+Rep for [well thought out and reasoned] replies!
I think you should still have 2.. Adds to the security of the panel as well because randoms won't know the persons login name.

Yes they will, Alot of people know about RadioPanel.
Also will the upgrade to RDJP v4 upgrade the values to it aswell or do we have to stay on v3?

Hm... alright I see what you mean by that but then again, if it logs every login attempt and you start seeing a massive list of attempted logins from one IP then you can just ban the IP...? But I definitely see what you're saying... I'll keep that in mind.

I think you misunderstood what he meant... I think he more meant like people know your dj name but not necessarily your username (what you use to login). As for the rare values, if I make a values plugin it would be free for people who paid for the v3 plugin.

IP banning is a bit pointless now because most people have dynamic IPs and host names so they could just restart their router and WOO new ip.

Well mine changes every night at midnight cause my router auto-restarts.
Also whenever I go on rapidshare (i'm not premium) and I want to download something and it says *Ticket Reserved* 30 mins.
I restart the router and go back on and it downloads straight away :p

I can't :( *feels left out*
Mainly cause I have an internet share and they didn't give me router access :(

Hi,
The administrator should be able to set the prefix to names (For example, DJ, ADMIN-, etc) to usergroups. Is the panel going to be open source?
I'd be against using dropdown boxes for the main login screen. It looks ewwy and I can't be bothered changing it.
Good luck.

cookie bans work well.

Unless you clear or have disabled cookies.

If you used flash on the login then you could ban their flash id...

Now that is a solid idea. Can you reinstall flash to get round that?

cookie bans work well.
But cookies don't! You can clear your cookies easilly.
If you used flash on the login then you could ban their flash id...
Not everybody use flash, and not everybody like to see it in their browsers as it gets annoying etc.

Also with flash you can't use Firefox to save login information e.t.c.
Flash = Bad (for logins). :)

Anybody who is likely to be banned will be smart enough to know how they get banned.
People who ''misbehave'' may be immature, but they are smarter than you think.

Reinstall shockwave. Works on habbo

Im not quite sure what you said there but then again iv just had a 23 min survey via phone so here is my opinion on what i picked up
I think that the users login name should be the same as there DJ name to save confusion and i do not this that the DJ part should be at the beggining and it should be in an option for the DJ wether to include DJ befor there user name on the stats and should be able to be turned off by an admin because on my up coming site it will not be done by DJ name its will just be a plain name :D
Do it so its their panel name, so if they're DJ Ryanz, sign them up as Ryanz, but let them choose what they want before their names and after because some want like DJ ..::.:Ryanz...:.

So, I guess there are a couple things I need to address here....
1. I realize that there is no way to 100% for sure ban a user and make sure they never ever come back. The IP Ban feature on the panel is simply meant to act as a deterant so that the common user/immature youngster can't try to continually abuse the panel or any of the features on it (request line and etc.). The IP Ban uses several layers of proxy checking and at this time it doesn't work with or use cookies in any fashion due to a variety of reasons (the main of which were already listed in other posts).
2. The login will be/is done in normal HTML and does not feature a drop down menu of any sort. Currently it uses javascript for some funky fill/clear effects and you can preview what I meant by visiting http://quickscriptz.ca/djpanel4/ (and yes, every login attempt you make is recorded along with the username/password you try - this is to allow the admin to know whether you are trying to do some MySQL injection or if it is just an honest mistake).
So thanks to all those who were on topic and left their opinions regarding the username/djname situation.
+Rep where possible (sorry Blob, gotta spread)
