i actually dont get a toss about what type of forum you use, vbulletin isnt always required (BUT IS ONE OF THE BEST) :)

Its actually good to use a free forum like myBB which can be customed to look like vb, and then you can see if the forum is popular, then you can upgrade to vb after time.
