I got asked this earlier and it got me stumped until I thought about it...

The Beatles, Queen and Iron Maiden were, in my opinion, the best things to come from Britain...

Thoughts?

iron maiden for sure, i dont like them that much, but they are pretty amazing.
radiohead also, even tho i dont like them at all.
some people will probably laugh/hate but i also think bands like klaxons deserve a mention. they've started a whole genre on their own, that's worth something. plus artists like lethal bizzle and dizzee rascal, they bridged the gap between grime/hip-hop and indie, two completely different genres. i think they deserve a mention also. regardless of what you think :P

that makes no sense, so you're saying someone who is female, who takes drugs and has a masculine voice could have a 4+ octave range and hit notes and hold them in tune which only the majority of the world can dream of doing?

Your not being serious are you?

I don't see why he shouldn't be being serious, you don't normally hear female vocalists with a vocal range that's compared to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston - but then again I doubt you'd know talent if it hit you in your face.

she is the british equivalent to mariah carey. so yh, i would class her as one of the best music artists coming from the uk.

I wouldn't go as far as calling her the equivalent of Mariah Carey. Although they can be compared, Mariah's vocals definitely excell Leona's.

Girls Aloud!

Girls Aloud hold the record for the shortest time between formation and reaching number one in the UK Charts (with their platinum-selling début single "Sound of the Underground"), and have since become one of the few reality television groups to achieve continued success. Guinness World Records lists them as "Most Successful Reality TV Group" in the 2007 edition, and they also hold the record for "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group" in the 2008 edition, with 17 top tens, making everyone song in the top ten released then, from "Sound of the Underground" to "Call the Shots."

It'll be 18 as I can clearly see 'Can't Speak French' in the top ten this March!

They've also been labelled as the most successful girl group of all time by 'X Factor' & 'The Friday Night Project' when they performed on there.

Offtopic: I love that signature risque! Wish I could +rep you :p

girls aloud don't nearly have as much success worldwide as the spice girls did. and they certainly are not as iconic.

Yeah, but the vocalists in Girls Aloud are far better than the vocalists in Spice Girls. They don't need to be iconic to be better. They don't need as much success as the Spice Girls, because they've practically dominated the bands category (charts wise) in the UK. Their songs in the UK have been more of a success than Spice Girls' which counts for something seeing as that's where both bands were established.

Girls Aloud have plenty of time to dominate worldwide, they aren't labelled as 'doing it for the money' like Spice Girls have been with their farewell tour. Credit to Mel C for not wanting to reunite, though.

lol there is no way she has a 4 octave range, that would be mental. Serj Tankian of SOAD was trained as an opera singer and has a 2 octave range - that's impressive. Perhaps she can hit a C in 4 octaves or something but I can't believe that she can hit every note in 32

samsaBEAR
07-03-2008, 11:49 PM
does a 4 octave range mean that she can hit a note in every octave

FlyingJesus
08-03-2008, 12:19 AM
I'd have thought it would have to mean she can hit all the notes in that range, otherwise it's not much use and I've probably got a "good range" despite not being able to hit more than maybe 7 notes total haha

Coldplay

Virgin Mary

Leona's is like 3 octaves, she can just about get into whistle register. Which British singer has won the most grammys, or is it Amy Winehouse?
