I'm seeing it around on other forums and apparently it was annouced at the GDC by a rep that Nintedo are going to start charging people to play some online games

"Games which will be "pay-to-play" will have it printed on the case in a red circle, as opposed to the blue "WiFi" symbol.
On the plus side, upcoming games such as Mario Kart and Brawl will NOT be pay to play and will not have these rules embedded into them after it's release."

Sorry I don't have a site that actually confirms this so hopefully this is just and will stay a rumour. If this is actually true, what a bad move by nintendo :P

That's just stupid, Sony charging maybe, Microsoft charging for online play yea, they both make sense but for the Wii? I mean that's just Nintendo trying to milk as much money out of people as they can, Wii games should be free to play online and the only sacrifice is a little exercise

That's a bit crap really. Not really something I expect from Nintendo, they're normally into the whole pay for the games and console, and nothing else.

Na the Wii being unique is the advantage, paying for online is a good thing really
But the Wii charging for games seems useless really, what will it do to benefit anyone?

I can't find any confirmation on it. Probs just bogus. Nintendo charging for online would be the worse move yet. It's console sells good and gives gamers a unique playing style, so why ruin it with pay-to-play rubbish. :/

LOL, until Nintendo get a decent online service I doubt anybody would pay anyway, Sony maybe charging for PSN would be understandable but Nintendo need to catch up with the PS3 and 360 in terms of net connectivity for it to be actually worth playing for. Though it is only for individual games, but still, should be free tbh.

If this is true, PS3 is the only one offering a free, and wholesome online service :P Go sony.

Haha, part of the reason people like Nintendo is because of Mario and that and free online play. I guess not no more :)

I seen this a while ago, perhaps a good move as they could integrate voice chat features.

Oh right I guess why thats why the Wii is always out of stock and kicking the 360's butt.

Honestly, I think it will stay as a rumour - Nintendo wouldn't delibrately lose their advantage so stupidly :]

Kicking the 360s butt? Are you serious? You don't own a 360 so you're obviously going to stick up for Nintendo, fan boy ;)

And yes, I do have a Wii before you ask.

and yes I do own a 360.
All the current online games arent going to be p2p.
p2p games will have a red WiFi symbol while non p2p have blue.

1.) Nintendo won't charge for every game, especially games already out.
2.) We don't know what this even means. If I had to guess, this means that Nintendo is opening this up to 3rd parties that have expansive online features (Monster Hunter 3 for example).
3.) Stop freaking out! We barely know anything. :)

What a load of *removed*, they have got a great console, great player base and now they put this rumor out? But then again, im not so sure on how real this sounds, I don't think Nintendo would be so stupid.

Xbox 360 you have to pay for but honestly the online on the 360 is far better in terms of the Xbox 360 Dashboard etc... This is speaking from a Wii lovers point of view.

PSN is just crap and isn't worth 1p let alone whatever price they would charge for it, that is, until HOME comes out.

I guess this is logical if they are teaming with Nexon and bringing out an mmorpg like they promised but if it is just general wifi then that sucks.

'"Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay And Play" will let users subscribe on a game-by-game basis to certain titles.'

So its per game, most people seem to be expecting an MMO as I am. I see nothing wrong with it, they are charging PER game so the quality of their other wifi features shouldn't be taken into account.

Think about it:
They have old Nintendo fans: Twilight princess and super mario galaxy
Newer Nintendo fans: Super smash bros brawl
Non gamers: Wii sports

Now it seems they are going for the WoW/PC market with MMOs.........**** ive just thought of something.

Animal crossing Wii is out this year right? They are keeping it all secret, no details have been revealed. There is supposed to be a mega feature in it that they aren't revealing. Some people think its you can back up your towns onto your ds but others think that it may be everyone lives in a huge online town together......This could be the first pay to play game as usually Nintendo leads the way on new ground with one of its own....
