'Wdf' - Oh I have found out 'What the...' is, so should wdf?
Many people know they can be referring to the naughty swear word but others could mean it by 'what the flip'
So should they be filtered or not atm they are not - But I got a warning for apparently avoiding the filter... when I could of meant anything by 'f'.
Fill in poll and opinions please.

strange that it's filtered there but it wasn't in your post... or was that 'wdf'? eh, that could even mean "well done friend" :D!
jesus

It sure should. This is seen as avoiding the filter if you type those letters you mentioned. It's like when you put an 'F' in another abbreviation, that's classed as avoiding the filter also.
Hazza

I think it should be, because if 'what the' is, why isn't 'what da'?
I've seen many people use 'what da' - if it was, I would be one less warning.

if the 'F' word is being abreviated then yes it should
Slowpoke

thing is, 'wd' means well done. and to futher abbreviate you could put, 'wdf' meaning well done friend. i know it's rarely used but this may occasionally be the case.

Yes. But if a forum mod see's 'wdf' - whatever the meaning they will jump to conclusions and warn/infract you.
@Woot;
Its like saying why is the F word filtered at all?

I dont know why wdf is filtered, I don't see how it can be used in an offensive way :SYou have a good point, I can't see how either can be used offensively and recently some words were unfiltered that can still be used offensively in a certain context. If they were unfiltered these should be too.

cause its the double standards 4 u mate
and also how the hell can you use wdf as an insult? It's a term used to describe someones confusion, or disbelievement of something - not to insult anyone else.

(What the.. shouldn't either).

If shiz and ***** are unfiltered, W.T.F etc should be unfiltered too, considering it cannot be used as a form of abuse, but rather a shock and awe reaction. Also, if you wish to avoid filters with wth etc, the proper way to type it is with dots :P Not that I am saying go forth and swear in abbreviations, even though there isn't really a way to do it.

(What the.. shouldn't either). What makes you think that? There are people who are under 12 years old on this forum and I doubt their parents would appreciate the website allowing words like this to be exposed to their angelic children.

Piss and ***** are just as bad as 'the F word' in my opinion and I'm sure in many '12 year olds parents' too.

How do you reach that conclusion? In TV, films, books and any sort of media the F word is shown as a major vulgarity while piss is a minor vulgarity and a Britishism for drunk and urine. ***** just means needle entering the skin or a 'pin willy' (considering dick is unnecessaily filtered.

Why do people bring up 12 years old on this forum when the majority of the forum is 15+?
I bet a 12 year old's parents would be amazed they even use a forum online :S

Surely there's a minimum age to join the forum? A 12 year old is fully aware of what the word piss means and they're not exactly babies... Unless you think all 12 year olds need to be spoon fed everything and kept protected at all times online, so no arguing must break out or any negativity. It's all peace and love etc etc. Considering there are forums based on discussions of a sexual nature and for teens, Habbox kinda bring it on themselves that these sorts of discussions come about. If drinking is involved in teen life, the words being pissed, piss-up etc may all appear. And considering we're allowed to say shiz which means the 4 letter word for faeces, it causes confusion and makes people wonder why they can't say piss and ***** when a word derived for a particularly vulgar word is ok to say.

So why bring it on yourselves to suggest that mature content is allowed by having a teen life forum? Teen life is virtually useless, drinking discussions can go in the food and drink forum while everything else is for discuss anything and health tips and advice. Heck, the relationship forum can be considering misleading. Then I bring up the word shiz again. If that word is allowed to mentioned, then so are hundreds of others that are slang words, like dick, piss, ***** etc etc. Obviously the the words that are huge vulgarities like the F word, S word, C word ad W word should remained filtered, but having words that suggest them that are unfiltered suggest that other words that are just as bad and even not bad at all should be unfiltered.

I agree with you sort of. I think there should be a forum within the teen section that could contain more things that are deemed inapropriate for a 12 year old. Obviously there would be some sort of warning before you entered the forum.

I'm not suggesting to get rid of the filter or let randy teens talk about sex :P I'm just saying that from a neutral point of view the forum brings the issues on itself by allowing vulgar words go unfiltered while harmless words remain filtered :P It makes members think "If this unfiltered, surely this should be too?" etc.

It's better to have a discussion in the feedback froum so everyone can post their opinions. If anything changes that only benefits a very very small minority of the forum, it causes arguments.
Some threads on this forum that dont get locked/ deleted would scare most 12 year olds away.
I dont think it should be filtered, But you should get infracted if you use it in that context.
If you were flying and you wanted 2 be jokey, (in fs forum) you could go..
***!, :P Your landings are getting better
*** meaning way to fly, as some people say way to go - wtg, it could mean who** finally gone!
Its all about the context, if your trying to insult somone, then its not ok, if its just said about something then its ok

Personally I think the filter should be far stricter, any sort of swearing is uneccesary imo, unless used for comedy, in which case its usually the timing of it which makes it funny, and you can't get that on a forum. But I'm old fashioned like that, so I dont think my opinion counts for much here :P
But I think people should stop using the argument that young people read this forum. Any young person intelligent enough to use a forum will doubtless be exposed to the language every day. I think the real argument should be about the envrionment it creates on the forum. For example, I find it difficult to have an intelligent discussion with someone who swears every other word. He may still have a good point, but its lost amongst all the cursing. Its far more pleasent and effective to use less offensive words, for example drunk is a perfectly good synonym for pissed. But again, I'm in the minority.
