The Government wants to introduce ID Cards for every cizten in the country within a few years. Do you agree that the government should have access to your fingerprints and other details even if you haven't done anything wrong? Do you think our government is trustworthy enough to keep our data safe? Do you think ID Cards will help fight terrorism and crime?
Discuss and vote!

I'm still undecided although it's quite scary, it's like Big Brother...
if you havn't done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. They could just find murderers by taking a sample of DNA at the crime scene, and then they would be able to match it up to the exact person.

i'm still undecided, i'm a bit worried about the state possibly having too much information on us and i don't really understand what you'd use them for. The french have them and they carry them everywhere and are IDd for lots of things, some which i think are pretty pointless.

Yes you have.
Pervs, murderers, hackers, companies could get hold of our information and once they have it you can't get it back unless you can grow new fingerprints. If the time ever does come to introduce ID Cards to everyone, I will refuse point blank to give the government any of my data as I have done nothing wrong and don't trust any government with my details, especially this one.
It's just the socialists trying to control everyone like usual, EU etc..
aslong as u can get fake ones where u can get older age idc
I doubt you will be able to hack into it, and it would be VERY VERY VERY hard to get into it.. LOTS of tests would have to be done to make sure you cant and they wouldnt release it if u were in danger

The same has been said/done with the current systems in place, they all fail either through hacking and stupid mistakes. Recently we have had about 4 cases of millions of details going missing.

The goverment can go **** themselves, i don't want them knowing exactly where i've been all the time.
id rather have them have everyones data. least it makes us safer if theres some sort of nutter. they can get his dna nd match... those who are scared of losing your data well whats going to say you out of millions will be picked =/

Then how will they find this nutter? Having an ID Card won't prevent a murder and a terrorist before blowing himself up won't stop and think 'opps I haven't got an ID Card, I won't blow myself up now'. What if you are picked? There are millions/thousands of companies and bad people out there who would love to have access to your personal data and ID Cards are a very big help to them.

people are over reacting about this :S OMG NO IT'S LIKE BIG BROTHER, GOVERNMENT WILL HAVE MY FINGERPRINTS. look, anyone can get your finger prints and you'd be none the wiser. and if the data being released has been done before then the government will learn from their mistakes.
however i am still undecided, but lol at the people having a paddy fit about it.

I don't see the problem, people could steal your ID card but they can't exactly steal your fingerprint. And I fail to see how having your fingerprint on record is like big brother.

this seems a bit on par with our warrentless wiretapping here in the united states. people say if you havent done anything you have nothing to worry about, but i think its more the principle of it. its excessive, it's a bit too controlling. you need to put a line somewhere so that it can't go too far. extremes happen little by little, and if you allow this then it keeps going with other things.
not that it really effects me, just my two cents on it.

I think it would be good on the crime side of things but I simply would hate to give my details to a government that I see as untrustworthy.

The thing is, if someone wants to fake one, they can, and they will. It always will be broken.

I don't mind. If it saves a hell of a lot of time and catches criminals quicker then I'm all for it.
And Taker, our government are Social Democrats, not Socialists, there's a massive difference.

They aren't. People are concerned at the government losing information all the time and as Alex said, it will always be broken.

Oh no, If you didn't know Ken Livingstone is a big socialist and so are Brown and Blair. Ideas like everyones fingerprints on a database are what socialists agree to.
when we reach the age of 13 we need a id if we dont we get a
guy at the door saying yo mothe****** 50 euros plz
and then the leave and its ok. Also i wouldnt advice a system like that. The united states wants to look at youre information if youre a terrorist or not. afcourse a farmer in the middel of nowere isnt a terrorist. But napoleon always sad. When youre country id doing **** just start a war. Thats why were in afganistan and ****. When i went to the us i had to fill in a form that im not a nazi of the second world war. I was like lol im 15 years old.
