View Full Version : [timg] tags

Hi,
I'd like to make a suggestion to add the plugin to the forum.
What it does:
If you put an image in the tags [timg]imageurl it shows a smaller preview of the image (around 500x500 I think?) and if you click it, the full size image in another windows.
Here is an example. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=5161483&postcount=524)
It would come in useful for the Design and Development section when posting templates etc. The Post your desktop thread, the post your setup thread and various other threads.
I just think it would be a great feature for the forum, especially users with small screens (800x600 & 1024x789 or whatever it is) and low bandwidth users.
Thanks.

I like this idea :D
It would also be better for forums such as the Flight Simulator forums so the big images don't stretch the page :D

It looks horrible.
Like your signature and avatar then.
And what do you mean it looks horrible, what does? :S If you don't like the small preview then click is and see it big. It would save loading big massive images you didn't want to see and wasting your bandwidth.

Certainly an interesting idea. :) It can be quite annoying when large images take up entire pages and it is difficult to read the posts in a thread so this is a nice idea however it would depend on the nature of the plugin etc and also if people would actually use it.

Looks like a good idea, and if peope forget to use it then it's just a simple 5 second job for a moderator. The nature of the plug-in isn't too serious. Just ask someone to see if there are exploits is simple enough :P
Nick.
15-03-2008, 02:13 PM
Yeah, if people don't use it and the image is say, bigger than 700x700? Moderators could edit and put it in a timg tag with a friendly reminder to the user to user [timg] tags wherever possible. Also, if there were exploits I doubt a highly popular forum like MacRumors would use it?

vBulletin does resize images anyhow. Or it does on HabboxWorld when i post large screenshots they get resized and then you click to see bigger.

Maybe they have a plugin, but it doesn't do that on HxF UK.

// Image Processing Options
// Images that exceed either dimension below will not be resized by vBulletin. If you need to resize larger images, alter these settings.
$config['Misc']['maxwidth'] = 2592;
$config['Misc']['maxheight'] = 1944;Muahhh. Edit that tbh, should work then!

Use the resizer thats used on HxW and other sites, so no matter if its in what tags its in it'll resize to a decent one isntead of people having to put [timg] tags on then noone does it..

This wouldn't make the page quicker to load. You are still downloading the fullsized images, they are just being shrunk by the browser. It is still useful for people with smaller screens, however.
It's a plugin, it's "to much of a security risk"
Actually its default feature or if you want to be truly flexible, BB code.
This seems like a good idea but I think it would be better of implemented as the default feature rather than the BB code like on the example forum, however it is not up to me to decide.

I agree with this, it works amazing well over at Mac rumors and makes viewer much better if people only got small monitors and so on.

So, have the management come to any outcome yet? Or is this just another thread that's going to get dusty?

Thanks Habbox Management for the response we've received on this issue, you treat your users (and customers) just great. As usual, you don't give a flying monkeys about a users valid suggestion which many people agree with. :)

Your point on filesize is useless, it's just shrinking the dimensions, not the filesize.
