View Full Version : Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
I think it's very good actually. I wasn't sure what to expect from it.
I only watched it because my college did the musical as a show (finished recently).
Johnny Depp portrays Sweeney really well.
8/10 from me.
Classic Tim Burton style movie.

I thought it was extremley graphic, but the story line was kind of interesting. And well, here's something to think about.." The best pie's in London".. kinda nasty.

i hate people who complain about the blood. it's impressionistic. its about the shock value of it, not the actual violence. it's art.

It does have a story line!
(Spoiler tags for those that don't know the story and haven't seen the movie).
Basically, Sweeney Todd is actually called Benjamin Barker, sent to Australia (as a prisoner) on false charges by Judge Turpin (who had a crush on Benjamin's wife - Lucy). He raped her at his ballroom dance thing and she was then forced onto the streets as a beggar woman and Johanna (her daughter) was adopted by Turpin, who, over the 15 years, started to fancy Johanna (yeah, he's a pervert). Benjamin returns as Sweeney and reclaims his old position as a barber at his old home and barber shop.
He doesn't get to kill Turpin the first time, so he sort of goes in a rage and says that he will "practice on less honorable throats", which Mrs. Lovett uses and makes the best pies in London, with human meat (so their bodies cannot be found).
He's after two main people, Beadle Bamford and Judge Turpin. So Beadle Bamford has his throat slit, and Lucy (the beggar woman and Sweeney's wife) comes in trying to find him, Sweeney then slits her throat because she recognises him and then the Judge comes in and he slits his throat.
Mrs. Lovett tries to hide the fact that the woman's throat he just slit was Lucy, so he gets angry and throws her in the oven and then Toby gets his revenge and kills Sweeney.
He's just trying to get his daughter back, whilst getting revenge.
Yeah, it's a confusing story-line, but it's great.
I loved it myself :P
I still love the storys about it :P i would give it 9/10

It's a tale of revenge.
It was an enjoyable film, although I really dislike musicals. It definitely had the artistic flare and gothic feel of a Burton picture. 6.5/10.
I have to admit, I hated it!
It's probably my biased hatred for muscials, but I despised it.
Inseriousity.

I love it... and that's mostly because I love Helena after her Harry Potter performance... best actress I've seen who can make you laugh cry etc...
I'd rate it 10/10.
The music adds the whole gothic feel to it :P

Honestly, I think it's probably one of the better movies I've seen in a long time. Right up there on my top 5 ;)
I really need to see this still...I am a huge Tim Burton fan, I even love some of what most people consider to be his worst work, Mars Attacks - one of the best movies I've ever seen, but a lot of people dislike it xD
I generally dislike musicals aswell but with Tim Burtons name on it I'm not gonna say no to seeing it xD
