View Full Version : Removing pointless good rep
You know when Nick- removes pointless +rep, why doesn't he also remove pointless -rep. I could report one -rep and then i'd get loads of +reps taken off aswell, which is what comes with reporting -reps. But why don't pointless -rep also get removed? It's alot easier than removing pointless +reps are there are alot more pointless +reps than there are pointless -reps :P

The simple answer is, I do. Although normally there are more pointless +reps than -reps because, lets face it, no one reports pointless +rep which causes the visible imbalance. Granted my top priority is checking out the actual rep you've reported followed by removing pointless +rep because thats often a heftier job than removing anything else. Also, assuming you know you have another pointless -rep, you should have reported it once it was issued rather than waiting for more -rep to appear. :)
Its also no good if you just state that you think you've received pointless rep (as some users have in the past) and just ask me to check through them in a very general way, a specific date and time must be provided so that I know the exact nature of the problem and its point of origin.
Its entirely your choice if you report reputation of any kind, although, just because you don't report any it doesn't mean I can't and don't go through them. If you issue a pointless -rep to another user I have every right to go through your reputation and remove any that are pointless as part of the deterrence system that was introduced a while ago (I don't randomly go through them, you will be made aware via PM of whats going on and why ;)).
Not reporting reputation does not necessarily mean you are not part of the system. All of this, combined with the reduction in the number of people you can rep in a day, is designed to make you really think about who you rep and why and what you need to do to avoid any negative consequences because of what you do when you use the reputation system. :)
Yes, it is entirely my choice to report the -rep but when I do it comes along with my pointless +reps checked aswell - Which I have no problem with but it still doesn't change the fact you don't check over other pointless -reps that I haven't reported. After all I don't report +reps but they get removed so when I report any rep, both all of my +rep and my -rep should be checked over aslong as the rep is within the 1 month limit.

Its not often I have to quote myself because I've already answered a question. ;)

This happened to me before. I repped someone and they reported it, a pointless +rep and I got 800 points removed. According to nick the second largest amount he has ever have to removed. Anyway, it does say in the thread that when u report rep you are allowing nick to check ur rep and anyone else who has pointlessly repped you.
The funny thing is, I know for a fact that you remove pointless +reps that are more than 1 month old yet you won't do it with pointless -reps. Oh and you never removd all my pointless -reps when I report 1 pointless -rep. and rob that wasn't what I was trying to get out from people - "simple, don't report -reps" ;/

If you know you have pointless -reps from previous months you should have reported them when you received them rather than waiting for more to build up and leaving it down to me to check through them when you report a newer -rep. Thats not to say I won't still check through them when you report a recent -rep, it just means its a lot less convenient for me. Also its important to remember that you may not actually have any pointless -rep on your account over the last 30 days, you can always PM me asking about any previous reputation you've received that you can't see in your profile, there's no harm in me telling you about your own reputation. :)
I do not remove anything thats more than 1 month old under any circumstances, simply because I don't even need to look at anything over 1 month old, the tool in the AdminCP is set to 30 days by default so I don't need to change any of the variables when I look through your reputation. Whats really 'funny' about what you've just posted is that your accusation has no factual evidence to base it on, you've made a minor assumption that you know exactly how the Reputation Manager works, which is no way to start a disagreement. Please don't make false accusations that you know 'for a fact' are not true.

Imo the whole rep system is pretty pointless these days anyway, no-one can ever gain any rep power, and while its nice to get a thankyou for a good post it doesn't really achieve anything. So its not worth whining about.

I find the same problem they take +reps away when they can't take old -rep away.
