Its actualy under £30,810, I only get it by 300 odd quid. We get a bonus in Jan and June. We DONT get one for Easter.

You only get EMA bonuses in January and June because of exams; it's a bonus for completing examinations. And yeah, if you're parents earn under £30,000 per year, you're eligible for EMA. I wish I was, free money... You can earn a maximum of £30 a week.

You can still get it in other Cases for example:

My Parents are divorced , my mum doesnt work she does charity work however my dad has to pay her maintaince allowance for her mortage & Food , bills etc that makes me able to get EMA £30.00 even though my dad earns near £100,000 a year.

Theres ways around it if you dont quailfy you just gotta know what to look for .

Lol well obviously not. That's the thing though, the reason we are mad is because it's different standards for different people. I go to school/college/uni and do the exact some amount of work and time as everyone else - should it shoudl be given to everyone or no-one. They don't take into consideration family size either. My parents may earn 30,000 yeh - but what if I have 8 baby brothers and sisters? That no way evens out that I will be getting funded fairly.

I'm not in any way trying to blame the individuals - it's the government that is the problem.

It's a completely unfair system and I'm not even going to get into a discussion about how completely wrong it all is, lol. If you wanna know my opinion in detail, look through my previous posts ;P

my mate gets tonnes of money for EMA cause he's autistic, he gets loadsa money a week, tonnes of bonuses (enough to buy himself top-end PS3s, 360s and Wiis). And y'know what? He lives in 750k+ house and his parents are loaded. Why is EMA needed here?

I don't need EMA. I have enough money. I think it's a good idea for those that NEED it. Why are bonuses given out? Why is money given for completed coursework? Makes no sense to me, it's to pay for the maintenance of your education. AKA Stationary, Bus Passes, Food, Essential trips.

Well that's what my uncle does, he deals with mortgages for different companies, so he doesn't have a pay slip.

HI everyone , im currently promoting EMA , so if you need any info just get in touch !

For the last 2 years i have been receiving EMA, it stands for Education maintenance allowance , its for 16-18 year olds while they are studying for gcse re-sits , A levels or Diplomas . Me ? i studied a 2 year BTEC in Theater Make-up , EMA came in very handy and i don't know what i would have done without it !

If your household earns less than £30,810 than you could be eligable for EMA , Either £10 , £20 or £30 a week !

If you have a part time job , it doesn't count against you receiving EMA so you can have a part time job and still receive EMA .

They base it on how much you earned the year before. Because my mums only been working full time half a year, I just fit in to the £20. But once my mums been working full time for 1 year, ill only be able to get £10 :'(

My dad has to pay the child maintenance weekly to my mum due to they were never married he lives miles away with his own family he doesn't support me nor my mum only the CM which he must do.

So £30 EMA makes a hell of a difference on my bus tickets to town and back. Although i dont agree with some bonus we get for summer holidays.

The idea is that your parents earn enough to look after you, I get £30 a week from EMA, if it went high then I'd probably be getting close to the highest because my dad is currently unable to work and my mum is too stupid, unlike most people I can't work a job around everything else I do so I can't work until I've at least finished college, I have to buy anything I want, like the EMA I am getting from this year goes to my supplies then a new PC, which is what EMA is for because I'll need a PC to do my work xD

He may appear to be getting the same support as you, but as far as you know, his parents could be heavily in debt, unable to pay of their credit cards and loans as they can't provide with their current income. The system is fair, in my opinion, it's just that most people of our age don't have the mental capacity to realise it.

I've also heard the argument about what if the parents have loads of kids - valid point, but if you've got more kids, the more money in Child Benefits you would earn, which would be a hell of alot more then EMA

I found ema was great for paying for college trips , and it was better because it was paid into my bank account , i even received bonuses because my attendance was so great (top of my class) .

i received ema for the last 2 years and was extremely hard working , i only had time for college and couldn't get a job , because i didn't want my grades to suffer .

This person I know claims he will get it cause his mum doesn't work cause his dad makes loads of money (£100k+ and self employed) and his parents will buy him PS3, 360, Wii, PCs pretty much on demand. How is that fair? There are lots of people who I know who parents run restaurants/take-a-ways who have tonnes of stuff and will still continue to recieve EMA. Another person I know lives in a £500k+ house and his parents earn tonnes and he recieves EMA cause he's got autism and he buys himself PS3s and 360s etc.

The system isn't fair and there are too many loopholes.

Thats the whole point.. bribe people to take further education. And if your only there for the ema, the tutor can simply throw you off the course and you loose your ema.

when in college you can only work 8 or under hours a week, at the min waged people can not afford that. i get ema and work and still struggle to get the items i need for lessons. many people have good reasons to why they need the money and you need to consider this.

Exactly, a hospital near me closed down and moved 10 miles away.

I really do dispite EMA. How come people pay there taxs like my parents yet all the money goes to people who scrounge off the goverment.

What makes me even more sick is the people who buy ipod ect with the EMA. Read

Of course I'm going to be complaining about it. I go to college like alot of other people. I don't get £30 a week to buy myself a new phone.

My parents probably couldn't afford to give me £30 a week so why don't I get it?

i work aswell as going to college
so its not really that pointless as its used for my buses
and the money i work for goes towards my bills/phone contract and other shiz like that..

Yes, I do agree with you there. And the more you earn, the more you pay in tax and the less you get. We have a neighbour who could easily get a job, but no, he would rather get money from the tax payers. That and they expect you to have all the time in the world.

i think that's fine y'know. You paid taxes and now you need it, you recieve it.

I recive EMA, my mum earns under 14k a year and she supports me and my sister as a only parent, which she has been doing for all my life. Nor my dad or my sisters dad pays child maintenance so my mum struggles with money sometimes and really, i think EMA is a great idea. As we have problems with money alot of the time and are not very wealthy so it pays for my books, transport and food for while im at college which helps my mum out as then she dosn't have to pay out more money she needs. Also you guys go on about how we are just taking this money from people who pay taxes ect. but my mum has always paid her taxes and iv been paying tax for the last year as i have a part time job.
So before you go on about how EMA is stupid and people who recive it just buy iPod's ect, think first as i sure do have better things to spend my EMA money on then a iPod or somthing like that.
Oh and apprently we don't get a bonus at easter. We'll i don't, i don't know if its different for other people.

I got £100 bonus in January and 1 in the summer. You also get another bonus in September if you go into A2 of college o.O
