I posted awhile back in the Nintendo forums that SEGA had registered the name Sonic Unleashed.
Well, the project went on and it seems sega have struck up a winner.

Sonic Unleashed plays like a mix between Sonic adventure, Sonic rush, Sonic and the secret rings.

If this isn't an amazing game they need to kill sonic off now. There hasn't been a good game since Sonic 3 IMO, except for sonic rush (which I didn't much care for either) and shadow the hedgehog (which is love it or hate it).

Lots of classical characters have gone away from there roots.

Sonic Adventure Battle 2 was the best Sonic game ever IMO.
I told you about this Niall.
It's a mix of Sonic Rush and S&TSR.
Sonic Rush 1&2 are also good games.

Don't make up stuff. We don't know platforms.
It's probably multiplatform, since the screens look 360/PS3 quality and the screens were sent to ONM (Official Nintendo Magazine) for their, I believe, next issue. It said so when the screens were found. The URL said it, I think.

No it's been confirmed somewhere, but I can't find where again.

I know for a fact that it has not. I followed the story from the very start.

Hopefully they're not focusing on speed like they've done for the past however many 3D Sonic's. Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD focused on the zones and scenery rather than the speed which was a bonus in the old games. The new games don't really let you stop to go anywhere or have different ways of getting from A to B. Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 were good, but the levels were boring. You couldn't get lost or take different routes to get to the end of the level, plus there wasn't any bonuses as far as I am aware at least :S

I would like it if the new characters they stupidly added actually got to be involved in a game which told their story, or at least let them have levels and special abilities of their own. They all have some potential.

Don't get me wrong, I love sonic games. I just wish they'd make them properly, making them this badly is just running his reputation into the ground. Camera problems seem to be in every 3D sonic game, I don't quite understand how they've managed that when every other 3D game in existance has managed to get the camera right. Hell, even crash bandicoot which came out in 96 could get the camera right. Surely sega can learn how to do it in 12 years?

I didn't own a dreamcast or gamecube, so I never got the pleasure of those games. I own sonic adventure DX on the PC, but I could only play it on my old PC which had really poor graphics and bad AA problems, and I haven't dug it out to use with my new pc. It didn't seem too bad when I did play it, doesn't compare to the 2D games though.

@Gomme: Sonic 1 was the only one of the games you mentioned that didn't feel fast enough, and that was only because they put a limiter on how fast sonic could go. The others got the balance spot on I feel, except for maybe the later levels in some of the games which punished you with decapitation if you dared to actually run.

I wouldn't mind them living forever if they made some decent games! Sonic rush and Sonic rush adventure are popular games because they stick to the old style with a couple of things bolted on for variety, trying all the 3D gimmicks they're doing just doesn't work. Imo they should re-make the old 2D games in 3D, I'd buy that!

Sonic Adventure had fine camera angles from what I remember, that was probably the best 3D sonic game, maybe adventure 2 but I donno I never played that

The only problem I found with the 2D sonic games is that you didn't have much of a warning of what was coming so you had to take it slow incase you aren't quick enough, with sonic adventure you saw what was coming and you could deal with it right away without losing your coins because of something that should of been thought about when the originals were developed

I found the trick was to finish the earlier levels with about 300 rings, by about the 4th zone you had about 20 lives which is about enough to get you through to the end while allowing for a few accidents.

Sonic games are notorious for having a bad camera, its just a fact of life :P From what I played of Adventure DX, it drove me mental.

I never played DX but that was PC exclusive wasn't it?

I had no troubles with the Dreamcast one, as you were running the camera stayed still, move it left it went left, move it right it went right and would just stay there, obviously if an event such as being chased by a whale were to happen then it would move to the appropriate angle, hasn't the whale thing been a bit over used? :S It was on Sonic Adventure then they stick it in the 360 sonic game (that is damn horrible)

I think DX was made for the gamecube too, don't quote me though

Edit:

Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut (ソニックアドベンチャー デラシクス, Sonikku Adobenchā Derakusu? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Japanese)), is a platform game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game) for the GameCube (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_GameCube) and PC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_computer). It is the basic Sonic Adventure minor improvements.

I can honestly say, I've never had a problem with cameras in sonic games :S

I must be being overcritical then :P I'm basing some of what I say on reviews for the games I haven't played (sonic adventure 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 etc) and every single one I've read cites poor camera. I've played sonic heroes and shadow the hedgehog and the camera was definately not right on those.

There were major camera angle issues where the camera tried to get behind Sonic when you were stationary but you purposely were stationary to look at something. That's definitely one issue I remember. Another was running in the first level of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle where the camera liked to look up more than at the road ahead of Sonic. But they weren't all that bad. The games are too easy, the Sonic 2D games kept you guessing and it allowed you just enough time to respond to a dip in the road of a bad guy. Sonic 3D games are "get to B from A as fast as possible," rather than collect this many rings, score this many points and look for the chaos emeralds in the special zones.

Lol I completely agree with Sonic Heroes. There was issues with the camera angles, but when I think about it, there wasn't anything they could really do. That game was definitely a major culprit of "get from A to B this fast" and didn't give any alternative routes. Sonic 2 loved different routes. At Mentor's flat in Uni he had his MegaDrive and there were 3 routes per level, depending on when they came up. There was a high route which offered loads of boxes, rings and very few baddies. A middle route which offered minimal danger and a lower route which was tough and for people wanting to risk everything

It was also on GC, but was called ..."DX: Director's Cut" for some odd reason
