Few of you own big site's (E.G: GoldenMerc)
yet you use free panel's for rare values etc..
I seen in a few threads ''We've got rare values intergrated to our panel''
but your forum's fairly big, and you probabaly have a few Site techies, so why don't you make your own stuff?
- Not being snobby, just wondering.
Or even pay someone to make custom ones..
Sorry just got caught up in it..

Most of the time none of site techies can actually code so they have no-one to do it for them which is the reason they tend to go to free scripts. Also, whats the point in coding a script if there's going to be only 3 people looking at it and the free options integerates into your site and works fine?

Make the site more unique?

I'm guessing most habbo fansite owners are between 15 and 17 years old (I think).
And I don't think they are prepared to put some funds into their site, although in my opinion, it is not possible to create a professional, good quality and well visited website without putting funds into the site.
From layout to scripts to advertisements.
I just don't think these people are prepared to pay for something on their site (yet).
But they will learn later on then I asume.
That's a risk website owners have to take, in order to make money from vip memberships or advertisements, they have to put some money into it, so the people would be interested in the site & it's features.
If you get my point.

Olivier Pauwels
Make the site more unique?
If it looks exactly the same as everyone other one or does the same purpose then the average habbo user wont care whether it's been custom designed for the site and also as Oli said no-one wants to invest into something which will most likely fail anyway (95% Habbo Sites).

yeah, it's worth putting the money in, but not really for a Habbo fansite IMO!

If it looks exactly the same as everyone other one or does the same purpose then the average habbo user wont care whether it's been coded differently or has a different backend.
Yes, but you said it yourself.
With a free script it looks exactly the same as other sites and only a few people, mostly friends then, would visit your site.
Believe me, if you have a custom script with custom features and a good advertisement plan, your site will be interesting and will have quite a few, if not alot of users
The main goal of the site is to keep the user interested, if there are new things once and a while the users would tend to stick with your site and not go looking for a different one.

Yeah.. but, if they have techies and hundreds of user's they could throw a competition or something, without having to pay.

True but how would you get the hundreds of users in the first place ?!
I'm not saying it takes loads of money (at least not for a habbo site) but for example to get a nice design, and maybe a good forum script or something, that could cost a litle (if you do it legaly).
I'm not saying free scripts & layouts wouldn't work but I think you would get much better results with a custom buildt design and script.
And since it's custom buildt it would be easyer for the coder to add new features now and then.
And @ the competitions:
That is one option, but you would again need someone with alot of habbo furniture to hand out or you could hand out VIP, but that is again one vip-membership payment missed out, but I guesse it could be done.

I do see where you are coming however habbo fansites seem to struggle to get a layout without copying it from somewhere so the chances of this happening are very unlikely. Also, most people who tend open fansites are either on a very tight budget so they can't buy anything or can't code HTML rather than PHP/mySQL etc.

Indeed,
That is what I said in my first reply, the habbo fansite owners of today don't feel like spending money on their website or indeed have a tight budget, which would ofcource result into average designs which all look alike.
If they would take the time to find a good pixel artist, that doesn't even have to be related to habbo, and pay that man for a custom habbo styled, unique and refreshing design, they would stand out from all the other fansites
:P you could also get it from advertisements.
Yes, but again you have to pay for your advertisements to be displayed on other sites (this ain't much but it's something).

Well theres no point in making your own panel if theres a free version which you can use which is secure and has all the features you need.
You can also re skin them, so it can look custom :)

I mean adsense, where you get paid for displaying adverts

Yes, but it will be much harder to add new features to it now and then, becouse if you don't add features, your site will allways be the same and become.. less interesting.
And if you use free script for everything, your site would be packed with all sort of scripts, ex:
news - cutenews
poll - cutepoll
forum - phpbb
usersystem - some free script (don't know the name of one)
rarevalues - another script
Do you get my point ?
You would have so many scripts, alot of separate logins etc
Or you would have to hook it up to the forum user db, but this requires editting all the scripts again

Like chris (Pixzo) has done with his site (Made his own panel intergrated news system)
