The media have hooked onto a story of a website which is aimed at girls between 8 and 16 where they buy items for their character known as a "Bimbo". Basically it's like a Neopets but instead of animals it's Blonde's.

The issue is the website allows the girls to purchase diet pills and give their character plastic surgery to alter the appearance of their Bimbo. Thing is the media haven't noticed the only out come of this will be nation wide free advertisement for the website. It's already had a registration of 200,000 members in their first month. I can only imagine how large their user base will be by the end of this week.

I personally see nothing wrong with this, if a kid is to be influenced by an online game then that's their personality and traits they have. If I was to shoot someone on an army game, doesn't make me want to go out and join the army just to shoot someone. It will happen just as much when they go to school, watch TV or read any news stories. The media are trying to act as if they are "concerned" for the children yet they report the story on national news. This will only give the kids a place to visit tonight when they get on the computer. I don't see the site being banned, if anything they will simply remove the diet pills.

I saw it on the news this evening, where they interviewed a couple of 14 year old girls, who implied it was probably more suitable for 9-10 yr old girls. It's of no interest to me, but does seem rather odd to teach young kids about dieting and plastic surgery even if it's only playful, maybe they are trying to sow some seeds for the future.

I think they're trying reverse psychology you know. I couldn't put down the idea if it was like that, and it does seem that way when you think about it.
