Beckham is starting tonight
James
Brown - Rio - Terry - A Cole
Beckham - Hargreaves - Barry - J Cole
Gerard
Rooney
2 holding midfielders :S

i dout those 2 will start in the middle of the field, looks highly unbalanced. Alltho they can both whack a ball.

Quite a few United players then? 4 out of 11. And 3 Chelsea players. I think it was a good decision at the back to have defenders that know how each other play though.
StefanCampbell
26-03-2008, 07:16 PM
oh i didn't see gerrard in the setup, looks liek a 4-5-1, looks like a good formation too me. He's using a formation which suites gerrard most which is the best move in my opinion as hes our best player.

Really? Gerard is the best? Rooney gives the spark to any team, Brown and Rio, with United, have only let in 15 goals this season I think, we all know Beckham's class of free kicks and crosses and J Cole was fantastic last England match. I mean, he might be the best but theres so much great talent to contend with.

I see a 1-0 win for England with Gerrard scoring early and then England sit back.

I was going on their international performances except the defense obviously. Like I said, J Cole was great setting up a goal last match, Beckham has scored fantastic last minute match-winning free kicks and Rooney was unlucky not to score last match.

we were beaten by a penalty
we were playing away from home
france hardly created any chances
we just lacked in the final 3rd
good performance imo

You are talking alot of sense tonight. My opinions entirely. To hold the World Cup runner ups to 1-0 is impressive. And like you said, they never even scored from open play, they scored from a penalty. We came out second half much stronger and made some better penetration.

I don't think Joe Hart will get a call-up ahead of players like Carson, Robinson, Green, Kirkland and Foster. James isn't a bad player, he was just a bit slow in that tackle.
Didn't see the second half, the first was enough to stop me watching.
Rooney can't do by himself at the front, he's a forward, not an out & out striker.

Slow down.
There are good, English strikers in the Premierleague, but in internationals it's a different story - as shown by many, many players.

We played so much better in that game and didn't deserve to lose. :[ I remember it well, was so annoying to lose 2-1 with two really late goals. Today's game was poor. A few nice moves here and there was about it.

This is true, but this is because England is impatient.
We want results straight away. We think because we have the premiership, our international players can adjust to playing with other premiership players at the drop of a hat.
If we give players time to develop into a role, they will get goals. If you just include 1 player every 4 matches (random example) they will not enjoy adapting to it every time.

I would have:
Robinson
G.Neville/Richards, Ferdinand, Woodgate, Bridge
Bentley, Gerrard/Jenas, Hargreaves, J.Cole
Owen, Defoe/Bent
GK - Robinson - He's been our #1 for a few years, sure he isn't the most consistent of goalies but he's still capable of top quality saves and performances.
RB - Neville or Richards - I would have to go with Richards over Neville due to fitness issues, but both are way better right backs than wes brown for sure.
DC - Ferdinand and Woodgate - Both have been solid defenders for their clubs during the season, especially Woodgate since moving to Spurs. I could see this as a possible future partnership.
LB - Bridge - When he plays for Chelsea he has been more effective than Ashley Cole, plus he's not as hot tempered as Cole.
MR - Bentley - You would have to be mad not to include him, due to recent performances for Blackburn. I can see him being a permanent fixture on the right side when Beckham retires.
MC - Gerrard or Jenas and Hargreaves - Don't get me wrong but Gerrard is top quality player but he just doesn't do much when playing in England shirt. You never see the same player you would see for Liverpool. However, Jenas this season has been in the form of his life and deserves England recognition.
Hargreaves, easily has been our most consistent player since the world cup and euro qualifiers.
ML - J.Cole - Easily the best left sided midfielder we have.
FC - Owen and Defoe or Bent - When Owen is on his game and is at full fitness he is a decent striker. Hard decision between Defoe and Bent because they are both similar strikers, like to go forward and exploit defenses. I would choose Defoe over Bent due to him getting matches.
No Rooney? - I'll explain that. You cannot question his work rate and effort levels but same as Gerrard, he does not repeat the same form at country level as he does for his club. Often when he plays he usually gets isolated on his own, which leads to him getting frustrated and his temper kicks in. Normally ending in him making silly tackles and arguing with officials, then getting sent off.

Yes I am.
Jenas, Bent, Robinson?
Jenas - He has been one of Spurs' best players this season, and deserves a break in the England squad.
Bent - Let me put it to you this way. Would you rather have someone run at a defence and cause them problems? or have someone launch the ball upfield and aim for a target (Crouch) and risk losing the ball?
Robinson - Yes he has had ups and downs the past few years, but he is slowly regaining the form which initially got him into the England setup. Plus as I said in my previous post, he has been Englands #1 for a while, and a sudden change of keepers can be a problem.
