what a stupid decision. it's not as if they're lowering the profit margins, as if that were the case, they would probably sell more leveling out the costs, whereas if they're making a loss, that will be pointless as no matter how many consoles sell, they're not making a penny.

Thing is , Bluray has MASSIVE potential. They know if Sony runs away with massive epic games that NOONE will want the 360 , they're trying to protect the 360 while they still can.

However the prices are undecided so they might be using a cheap blueray or they might sell them for more, no? :S

I've just thought... won't all the 360 fanboys who say blu-ray is crap have to eat a slice of humble pie?

So ironic...

*remembers in the console threads where people slated blueray saying it was pointless and wasn't going to be used*

Not really, just because they have to use it doesn't mean they wont think it's crap still xD

I have to use virgin media as an ISP and I think they're crap

I don't see how this is going to be possible, Sony owns Blu-Ray, and was developed with Phillips, Microsoft isn't in the development list.

So I don't see why sony would let Microsoft use blu-ray technology, when they are just going to try and compete?

Sony also owns the Blu-Ray logo, so what is Microsoft going to put on their disks/box?

I don't see how this is going to work, when Sony is the major shareholder.

Plus Microsoft shot this down, as posted on Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/02/microsoft-hoses-down-latest-xbox-360-blu-ray-rumor/

Toshiba are also developing the blue-ray drives and stopped doing HD ones

No, because I can't recall anyone saying it was "crap".

Just because you say somethings crap, doesn't mean you have to 'eat a slice of humble pie' when using it...

I expect most of them will have said, if anything, the Blu-Ray player within the PS3 itself is of a lower quality, to its stand alone equivelant.

Although, I'd take this with a pinch of salt. Might be the BBC, but rumour and speculation makes news as well.

Even so, although they'd initially make a loss on the console (as if they can't afford this), they'd still make money back on the increased amount of games sold, which I'd guess would be ~£10 more (to help cover the initial loss).
