I have been using Habbo during the last few months as I had been inactive for a very long time.

I have noticed alot of people walking around with stolen 'rare names' for e.g. crown, sky, do.. etc.

Many of these people claiming that is infact their own user and they have been on Habbo since 2001 when this is clearly nonsense. Many of these names were totally unheard of during the 2001 - 2003 period and I'm sure alot of the legitimate accounts that have been around since that period would probably remember alot of the 'oldies' as the community was alot smaller and indeed closer back then.

Having a quick glance at the T+Cs, I am aware that account stealing/sharing isn't actually 'legal' and is still a bannable offense?

Don't get me wrong as this isn't a rant, it is more of a question to why people feel they need to prove their '1337'ness by stealing 2001 account names and boast about their longevity visiting Habbo.

Any thoughts?

*****

Anyonme that thinks there 'kool' for being on habbo longer than someone else, needs to get there brain tested.

BTW you can't have a 'rare' name as EVERY single habbo name is made ONCE.

Yeah, I know what you mean. People will brute these names which are deemed 'cool' and then say they made it in 2001 when you know that's rubbish. I assume people do this not to boast about how long they've been playing bt for attention with a 'better' name. Although names can only be made once it's obvious people are going to want names like 'sky' rather than names like !x.x!JaKeY!x.x! or whatever.

In all fairness, Habbo need sufficient proof to ban them. They don't have to proof as in the terms and conditions, it says they can terminate your account whenever they want, for little or no reason. Some account are there's, just because they are rare, doesn't mean it's not theirs. They could have created the account, forgotten about it and then re logged onto them a few later. Like the account "bill" that's still the original owner ;).

But some people just brute..

There is a new brute forcer out, instead of entering data in the login form it goes to www.habbo.co.uk/account/submit?credentials.username=USERNAME&credentials.password=PASSWORD (or something like that) to avoid having to enter that text that you get when you get a password wrong lots of times.

Crown is DSE who has been buying and selling rare accounts for years. but he lost alot of furni when he was banned on DSE BUT got it all back when he got castle for 1 hc.

so most of them are just brought and sold

Even when people do sell and buy them the original owner or the person who sold it can just 'revert' it back anyway. So there is no point in buying one because you run the risk of getting it taken back off you.

Mostly casino dealers, game hosts (falling furni, etc). You have no idea..i'm pretty sure many people on HxF have too.

I don't understand!!!!! before it was just me (howdy) and (chris) and a few others, now there are all these vet groups with old users I haven't even heard of. You can always tell if they have no friends from 01/02, kinda gives it away.

07-04-2008, 11:40 AM
I don't really mind too much as long as they don't claim that they originally made the account.
What's wrong with someone wanting a specific name and then getting it?

I hate how people are going through a little faze right now though by making names that are words. Some of them aren't even real words.

Oh, you mean looking through a thesaurus and finding an adjective that no one has heard of and registering it and being all LOL MY NAME IS ORIGINAL, or making a word plural.

both are equally as bad.

That and spelling a name wrong and boasting how rare it is, 'Emoshinal' for example (example being I just made that up, I dunno if somebody has actually registered it or not.)

Not necessarily true, the new owner of the account might have bruted the DOB aswell.

Immenseman
07-04-2008, 12:44 PM
Yeah but when they go to change their email using the dob and what not the old owner could have kept a verification link so they could still revert it back unless i'm mistaken.

I've known Crown a while. For starters, crown is a she and she did not brute her account. She was given it however, but I can assure you she did not brute it. However, she was bruted herself last month and now goes by the name 'brats'.

And as for this rant, if you're this bothered about it then you clearly have some problems yourself. If you claim it's that obvious that the accounts don't belong to the new owners then why does it bother you so much?

It's been going on since like 2005 now. It annoys me more when people put ".,;:!?" etc at the start/end.

Alot of accounts aren't actually brute forced though. I've had the name Kasabian since '05, that's due to the fact habbo did a name clear out of those who had been inactive for donkeys.

To be fair, a good 95% of the 2001 'rare name' accounts are sadly bruted, but there has been a large percentage of users that have returned due to the account having its ban lifted last year.

Like Asher said, you can usually tell these are not users from the early days as we would have at least remembered them during those years and they would have older account names on their friends list.

The only people I can recall with good names that are the legitimate owners of the account are people like 'sod', 'bill', 'yonkers', 'radio', 'oreo' etc.

People with more unusual names like 'JU5T', 'Monsiour_Moo', 'yeaaaahhh' are usually also genuinely old accounts. It would seem to me that only the simple names are the ones that are being stolen as they are deemed cool to steal.

You can usually tell these are not the owners of the account as most of them act rather immaturely when spoken to, if they had been using Habbo since 2001ish, they would probably have matured enough to use proper English.

the way i see it right.. if someone gets permed banned. they should just delete the account, everything on it and let someone else register it. then we wouldnt get all these .;.;.;.;im.....l33t;;.;.;.;.;. names on habbo.

But the people on here who will probably say

"that person has spent alot of time and money on that account and they can wait til 2076 to get it unbanned should have broke the rules in the first place, and jeopodised there account if they love it so much.

You should have 6 months to try and get your ban lifted. If not they should be....

Not really. I went on for a bit during the time the perm bans were all lifted, a few old names appeared and I know Sod came for a visit, as did RedVelvet and a few others.

I was friends with allie (!tr!x!) tom (lol/crazyjoker) and oreo during 04/05 and friends with tracey/minnietheminx andy/evo andy/gb4u puddingthief arghh during the earlier days.

I suppose it's fairly easy to brute these accounts. The passwords back then were in many cases just random words, shame isn't it?

Does Habbo not by now reject you from logging in if you fail to provide a correct password for an account after a set amount of login attempts?

Zak

Trouble is habbo care too much about the money these guys are spending and not about the bruting which is obviously happening.

Everyone's name is unique but when they get all 'up their own backside', lets say.. That can be very annoying. Most of them just pretend to be all grown up and try to out smart you.. which is kind of funny. ;)

wouldnt you rather have a simple name like bob? Rather than having to hav %&^%(BOB$^%(%?

It makes you enter a capcha, if you you fail a certain number of times, now.

Methinks there are a few jealous habbos who would love to have a 'unique name' and because they can't, they throw criticism at the people who do.

Bruters have found a way around that but Habbo are on the case. I've been told that in a future update they will be adding a capcha to DOB to stop people being able to change passwords / emails unlawfully.
