View Full Version : Chat Room Empty

I personally think the chat room is a waste of money because whenever I go in there it is empty. And if it does have people in there, there's only two or three and most people are idle anyway. Maybe you could make it so there is a lower limit on the criteria you need to get in the chat - for example 50 posts instead of being a silver member. Or you could just get a refund if you can.

I've never acctually used the chat room, since there's a forum to talk about most stuff.

It's not really given that much promotion though... Just 1 link at the top and 1 at the bottom... Surely it'd be an idea to make a forum which leads to the Habbox chat? (Similar to the US News..)

But its not used enough and on the forum everything is logged, on the forum its "gone" after 'x' shouts so you cud get abused alot quicker on there and get away with it.
John!

Personally, I think a normal shout box at the top of the forum would be better.

The reason its not directly on the forum as it would be abused constaly and server wouldnt handle or make it alot worse, we used to have a shoutbox back in 04/05 but it got removed due to server couldnt handle and several other reasons such as too much to moderate.

True, so thats why we don't have one.

Shoutboxes are great for small forums like habboxworld where there's minimal rulebreaking so people are likely to use it well, but with the userbase on here it would probably be abused quite a lot and because the forum is so big no-one would be able to read the messages anyway. The chat at least has different rooms that can be created, so in theory it should've worked well.
But of course, once the novelty wears off, no-one uses it :P

well those ads generate revenue, so they wont be taken down
i mean like someone else said, a forum that is linked to the chart room

So is anything actually going to be done or is this one of them threads that just eventually dies and gets ignored?
The Professor
13-04-2008, 11:42 AM
Well I don't think it makes too much difference in this case, I'm sure they've read it and taken in what you've said. But since its an optional feature, you can easily ignore it and it won't affect you :)
GommeInc
13-04-2008, 01:12 PM
They need to advertise it a little bit more. Perhaps hold private meetings in there and possibly make a new VIP feature for VIP Clubs and Groups. Tis a waste of money at the moment.

A chat link next to the spam forum would be good. I know that most of the people that were on the chat, were in fact spam users. Putting it under Discuss Anything might be something too... A few chat-based Habbox events which won you Habbo furniture would be a good idea.
Maybe a weekly quiz even, yknow? With cash prizes? That'd appeal to everyone.

If it was given a good bit of promotion I think we could have that chatroom full :)
Maybe some competitions or game nights in the chatroom for those of us who dont play habbo.

Well if there is going to be a Celebrations forum, maybe 'hire' it our for parties? Maybe a less restrictive policy on 'the filter' also as it's transient.

the sub-forum idea is nice, but not the +rep one. itll just open the age old 'paying for +rep does not mean you have earnt it' argument.

I think a shoutbox would be better. I don't open other windows for a chat because they get in the way and go behind other windows when I'm using other things. I don't even get why you need a chat room when thats what a forum is for.

The text in the shoutbox on such a big forum would most probably be off the page before you get chance to read it ;)

If it was on it's own page it maybe more used, plus if you have more than one big room you wouldn't have to worry about over crowding, say 20-50 per room.

Yeah a seperate page for it so doesn't interupt other forums.

It also means you can work in one window, and anything remotely spam worthy could be discussed in real-time rather than waiting for a reply in threads. You never know, maybe debates could be held in there :P But a thread is better for that so people keep up to date... I still think multiple rooms would be kinda cool, like they have in iSketch (awful example).

Errrm, this explains it:
Join other people from around the world to play a fun game of online sketching!
The object of the game is simple. Each player gets a chance to draw a word which the other players will try to guess. You can play anytime for free, 24 hours a day!
You can also create chat-only rooms.
But that's besides the case, I was suggesting they have multiple rooms, like iSketch has UK English Room 1, 2, 3 etc.
