Ok I just really dont think that this is appropriate on a forum where there are a lot of young people :
http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/9706/omgri0.png

Ok so the thread I was looking at was entitled "Are you gay" but it comes up on pages where the word man is posted etc... I dont think it should be shown and I wonder if there is any way you could get rid of this ad?

And before a smart-alec says that I am a homophobe dont bother....

Regards !.:Creature:.!

I don't see how that is inappropriate unless you think the word 'gay' is?

Just adblock the ad in firefox and you wont see any ads

anyway I think it is google adsense so it displays any ads that relate to what it thinks is keyword.

eg. Thread name: Habbo Crashed!
Ad: IMVU, you like habbo then you love this or w/e

The thing is, if it was straight dating I doubt you'd be complaining so it does sound (and I'm not accusing) of homophobia to me.

As I said previously, there is nothing wrong with that AD. I went to thread you were referring to just now and the site the AD takes you to contains no inappropriate material whatsoever so I don't see the problem?

No not the word but if people who are twelve are looking at the site and say a parent walks in, they will definately overreact... I mean my mum saw it and was like OMG that is so innapropriate and Im 15... And to be honest I dont think its neccesary to have adverts for gay dating, we may aswell have ads for female stripping webcams...

I understand how it works but I wasn't looking for a way to block it for me but for younger people on habbox....

EDIT: and it is for over 18s anyway so that is further reasoning for it being inappropriate

They are in a completely different category. As I've just said there is no inappropriate material on the site whatsoever whereas on a site with female strippers there is obviously going to be. If the gay dating AD is removed then the normal dating AD needs to be removed too since they are essentially the same thing just a different sexuality.

I have no problem with them removing those either... they are also inappropriate because they also are for people over 18...

There is nothing inappropriate about them as they don't contain any inappropriate material. We may aswell get rid of the ones about loans etc too if that's how you feel. Remember, although Habbox don't endorse any inappropriate material they still have 18+ members and the Ads need to appeal to everyone (obviously without being inappropriate or breaking any of the forum rules).

Ok so if you name the amount of people that have used the links to loan sites/gay or straight dating sites and anything else that is for people over eighteen compared to people who have used links to other things and that proved that they where just as used then I wouldnt care, but surely it is better to have adverts directed at the "MAJORITY" agegroup than at the minority of people? Maybe innappropriate was the incorrect word, more like unneccesary?

I see what your saying but theres no real harm coming from it saying that though things that I think are more innocent as that have been banned from peoples avatars and signatures so meh

In that case we only need like one ad; Habbo since it relates to Habbox. Habbox need lots of ads because without them they lose money and I'm pretty sure the 'majority' of people on here use/have tried and Habbo would would then render that ad 'unnecessary'. :)

I understand that but you are forgetting the many different sub-forums... They could advertise hosting etc anything to do with games... anything to do with online games etc... Other MMORPGs and whatever you count habbo as.... So there are plenty of things you could advertise....

EDIT - I wonder if they would allow it in my signature as a link? Interesting haha

Maybe some people aren't interested in all of that. It's not fair to older members if ads that interest them are removed.

A link to that gay dating site? Yes you would be allowed since it does not contain any inappropriate material.

Yes well if you can prove that a significant number of people find sites like dating sites interesting too them then fine, but I still stand by my original post...

I think there used to be a thread somewhere called "report inappropriate ads" but I'm not sure what happened to it.

If the ads are bothering you just use this (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865) Firefox Add-on, I got it a while ago after someone mentioned it in a simular thread to this. Just blocks all unwanted ads, it's rather useful :).

Unfortunately we have no control over the nature of the adverts that are shown in that banner because they're all controlled by Google AdSense. :( We can't exclude certain adverts and allow others, the content of the banner is entirely at the discretion of Google.
As already said, they correspond to whatever is on the page using specific keywords, that very same advert is now showing up on this page because you've evidently typed in the same keywords. They only real way to avoid them altogether is to use the software posted above or not browsing into threads that are likely to contain the keywords that may trigger the adverts (I know this may be difficult to avoid because you don't know the content of the thread before you view it but you can still do your best to reduce the likelihood of seeing on of those adverts. ;))

I wouldn't really say the actual ad is inappropriate, it's just a clothed man with the word gay dating - it doesn't contain any sexual material or anything.

Although you say you would have no problem with them removing the straight ads, would you be as quick to complain over them as you have been over the gay ones?

Its inappropriate for hxf because we don't even allow posting pictures of yourself, forget "dating", gay or otherwise.

Well, one of the offences on the "issue infractions" list is "posting a picture of yourself/others" so I should hope it's against the rules :P

Ok let me clarify...

I did not say in any way, shape or form that this contained sexual content or indeed hinted at anything of the sort. I do however feel that on a forum which people 12 and under use it really isnt ok for this sort of ad to be shown. I have nothing against gay people contrary to what seems to be common (now apparent) misconception. I just think that if this forum doesnt let you post links to pictures of other people why would it let you go to a site which contains a plethora of images, contact details etc of other people? I could go on but honestly all I wanted to know was if anything could be done, not to have a group of people say that I am a homophobe... Good Day :)

EDIT- Thank you Nick for telling me something worthwhile :)

Actually based on that logic, which I take to mean that you're upset that we allow this ad while we presumably don't allow links to other sites that contain personal information. However we do allow links to other sites. MySpace links are allowed. Facebook links are allowed. You can post links to other sites with pictures of you. So this follows completely with the Habbox rules.
