The first 20 mins were REALLY boring - I nearly left the cinema.
But then it was just great! I love the fact it was totally filmed on a handycam :)

Yeah, i can't stop googleing theories to it now. It also has some ties with the series lost wich should be interesting.

Agreed, Lost is a piece of TV garbage.
As for Cloverfield, it was a mediocre affair of recycled concepts.

However it was filmed in a totally unique way which made it work for me.
I love monster flicks, so it's an immediate for me.
But I loved it. JJ Abrams came out on top with this.

I actually loved it, so much. I didn't mind the start at all, it just seemed all a bit confusing at first but thats what they want you to do in those sorts of movies, yknow to work it out yourself? I worked it out, and I enjoyed the film thoroughly.
MY SISTER HOWEVER..... LOL!!

The blair witch project was filmed on a handy cam i think.

Even if your opinion is negative towards both texts the writer has come up with something that is enjoyed worldwide by many people (wich is the intention of most writers).

Far from unique. It's been done countless times.

yeah, but most people aren't objective to movies. Misawa is very objective, and i usually am as well. but the majority of movie-goers enjoy every movie they ever see. a writer trying to mimic old ideas might be successful in having a wide audience, but doing so never leads your movie to be remembered or influential. a good writer comes up with something original while making audience-friendly.

totally unique? blair witch project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blair_Witch_Project), anyone?

Total load of rubbish imo. Boring, and like COD4, Blair witch project and King kong/godzilla got together, and no ones quite sure who's the father. Bored me solid, took old concepts, and I was unfortunate to see it a second time. The first group of people I was with loved it, the second, hated it. Depends on your personality, I guess. :eusa_whis

As has been said above, that was taken from the blair witch project.

haha, i thought it was a good guess. godzilla is a japanese movie and incorporates a monster.
if you're talking about the host: that was actually a korean movie, and had very original aspects of it, such as the use of humor, romance and irony

Godzilla isnt a Japanese movie. It's a ton of Japanese movies. There as much Godzilla's in Japan as there is James Bonds in England. The American Gozilla wasn't too good.
Also, I wouldn't say the majority of movie-goers enjoy every movie they ever see. Thats stupid.

i think it's pretty accurate. i was even talking about this today with someone, a lot of people (who are casual movie-watchers) can't name a movie they really hate. people generally watch movies they see advertised, and go by that, which usually means they'll like it. people generally don't go to see movies whose advertisements they aren't attracted to. it's not that i think people are stupid or anything, but since a lot of people look at a movie as an event and a dedication, they usually choose one fit to their liking. not many people pay 8 dollars for a movie they doubt they'll even like.

The Blair Witch Project didn't originate the deliberate handheld docu-style of film, but put it on the map.
1998's Godzilla was attrocious, but so is Roland Emmerich's directing.

I mean, with the camera. It originated in Japan. As far as I know.
& I know The Host is Korean. :)
I do own it.

naw, i don't think it originated anywhere specifically, really. the blair witch project is probably the most well known use of it though.

Many, people in Japan would disagree.
Everything originates from somewhere.

Handheld filming came into existence with the creation of handheld cameras. Tens of thousands of films are and were shot handheld. The "style" in Hollywood and beyond did not originate anywhere specifically. People need to see the bigger picture because mainstream motion pictures are the VAST minority of films being produced, look at independent film-makers, myself even; no budget productions - they use handheld camera for principal photography. There is no bulletpoint origin. The Blair Witch Project illustrates a faux independent documentary - the key word being independent - it is just a way of presenting a back-to-basics view.

well unless japan came out with the handheld camera first, i dont think they are the only source. its not that extraordinary of an idea, i'm sure two people on two different continents could have thought of the same thing. it's a type of "breaking the fourth wall," (characters acknowledging that there is an audience) something that has been used in plays for hundreds of years. many people are very interested in the concept, so im sure there are lots of different people could have thought of it.
i HIGHLY disagree with "everything originates from somewhere."

Fair enough. To, the concept of breaking the fourth wall.
I understand you now.
But everything has to start somewhere.
Otherwise it breaks all logic, of the "start and finish"

I thought it was a really good film.
but the way that the Camera kept moving, since it was filmed as if someone was holding it
was kinda annoying.

The reason for that was it was a different portrayal of the movie (blair witch project style), only showing you what the people in the film would see (1st person) in comparison to 3rd person where you would see and understand more, it sits you in the middle of the action, a first hand experience that helps to promote the confusion and anxiety normally expected in such an event.
don't even get me started on Cloverfield, its the best piece of cinimatic history EVER MADE

well i really enjoyed it. id heard loads of bad stuff about the way it was filmed, but regardless of whether it has been done before or not, i think it really worked.
i love how there's an entire community that is based on theorising what happened after/about the whole monster and stuff. i think it shows that the movie was a huge success if you've got people thinking outside the box about it.
apparently there's going to be a sequel, which i think would work really well, as long as they didn't just see it as a way to make more money. well obviously thats what films are for, but you get what i mean. i hope they dont make it so its really obvious that they're milking it.

I thought it was OK. But a MAJOR disadvantageofthe handycam filming was that there was zero backstory, no cuts to an army base with an old man panicking, no president sending missile codes, just an oversized frog. I had to google it to find backstory and even then, it wasn't what I'd hoped for.
