Hey - quite a nosy question I know, but I'm currently trying to get insurance on my mum and dads car...

The best sort of offer I'm getting is like £700 when I am a provisional learner. However, when I pass and am a full license holder it's gonna go up to like £1400!

This is even with my mum as the main driver on the policy...

Is this expensive? It means it's gonna cost like £130 a month.... Tbh I think this is quite expensive, but maybe I'm just expecting too much?

Thanks...

Mine's £1400 with my dad as the main driver on a Golf 4 1.9 TDI. What is your car?

Citroen C3 Desire

I tried it with like a renault clio though and it was comnig up the same basically... So the car isn't really making a big impact - nor is pass plus.

I know, I was thinking Pass Plus would be a huge price crash, but unfortunately not. Mine was £660 I think on a Provisional.

Yeh my provisional is cool at around 700 which is not bad - but then it shoots right up to almost double when I pass and I can't seem to find anything to bring it down...

Not sure which insurance companies you are checking with, my brother drove around for over 2 years on my parents insurance firstly on his provisional and then on his full licence, because the quotes were horrendous some as high as £2000 for fully comp which is really unfair on male drivers. He's over 21 now and at long last able to afford fully comprehensive insurance in his own name and he is paying £800 after one year of no claims.

My insurance is cheaper ;) it's a fact that it costs less for females. Mine is around £650 fully comp and I've now got myself 18 months no claims. I drive a Toyota Yaris, low group insurance.

As a family we all use Tesco Insurance as there are benefits for multiple car policies. Give them a try or give compare.com a try too.

What insurance group is a C3?

I think it's insuranger group 3 actually... :S maybe thats why it's quite high?

It has a 1.4 engine or whatever lol. (im not very carsy :P)

I don't really have a choice though as its my parents car I'll be using, and like I say other cars such as renault clio also seem to be similair price.

C3 do tend to be group 3 for a 1.4

My car is group 2, the lower the group the better for new drivers. I really do recommend checking compare.com you may get lucky :)

I pay almost $4000/year. I am the principal driver of a 2003 3.0L V6 Honda Accord EX 3.0L V6, and the occasional driver of a 2006 Lexus GS300 3.0L V6. I have a major accident (wrote-off a GMC Yukon shortly after getting my licence) and a few repairs I put trough insurance.

Isn't compare.com just for products and stuff?

I've used gocompare, confused and moneysupermarket with all giving the same sort of range.

A grand is basically the average for a learner in a low spec car.

I'm not old enough to drive myself, but my brother has the same problem as yourself (N)

Theres not really anything you can do to lower it, the more years no claims, the cheaper it will get, but as your only provisional, I doubt you have more than 1 :)

merhhh it will go down slowly (Y)

Surprisingly, my insurance was lower when I had the 745i. It was a V8 and an overall better car. The reason it was lower was because it had a flood salvage title. If you get a car with a salvage title the insurance is way lower!

I assume you're on your own policy, you should go on your parents! I got quoted £660 provisional for my 1.9 Diesel. :)

Is this with just you on the policy? Or, for example, a parent as the main driver?

yeah that's me as a named driver on my dads policy, it's cheap, but pretty crap, i get some no claims still but can only use them with direct line and it'd still be pretty expensive if i went on my own. But i can't afford it right now whereas later i will have more money!
