View Full Version : Problem with mods

Habbox i just thought i would warn you that some of your staff are thinking they can read minds when they cant.
Just incase this was part of the criteria on becoming a mod.
Edited By nvrspk4 (Assistant General Manager): Thread closed. It's aimed at a specific infraction, which there is a thread for appeals about. If you wish to make a complaint about the nature of the edit, then there is a forum for that too. As for the (very sensible) point of this post as you articulated it, if indeed Elkaa and MAD have made mind reading capabilities a prerequisite for the moderator position (I know it wasn't when I became a mod, I barely knew my left from my right) I will personally make sure that the requirement of mind-reading is struck down.

I'm guessing you mean, when they warn you for being rude when you're not because the person you're being 'rude' to won't take offense because you're actually friends who talk like that to each other all the time?

I imagine he is talking about this -
http://www.habboxforum.com/showpost.php?p=4654842&postcount=8
And as a note, before the edit the post said; "I wish I had oral on friday".

Well certain mods think that people mean things in certain ways. When they dont, but they just go ahead and do it anyway

Am I right - Is this what you are referring to?

If you have a query about an edit you should contact that moderator and ask why. Or you should use the complaints forum, or contact the appropriate manager in order to resolve something.
This only brings the public into a discussion that can be easily dealt with.

Who is the appropriate manager? As there doesn't seem to be one mentioned that deals with moderators...

With the amount of pointless and inappropriate posting going on in that thread you should've expected an edit when posting something like, "I wish I had oral on friday".

The Mods may not have mind reading powers but they have common seance and their own judgement.
You tried to be smart and funny but you got caught out, deal with it, life's not always fair.

Your comment was innapropriate and pointless, there was no need for the comment you posted in the thread, If you wish to complain as Yoshi said, use the compliants forum, this just makes other peoples jobs alot harder for something so immature.

Probably should chuck contacts in the FAQ, might suggest that one day...
And 'oral on Friday' isn't dirty... It's something called humour really... It's neither vulgar nor offensive. Unless this is a forum for a private school, with children under 12 as members...

When did I say it was vulgar or offensive? If you actually look at the post the edit says, "Please do not post pointlessly".
Niall!

Actually, if it was about that, then some people do indeed enjoy oral exams?

What so because i enjoy talking i am a rule breaker?
Just because i am not as immature as the most moderators clearly are.

Ah didn't see the pointless part, normally the excuse for 'rude' comments is dn't be vulgar :P It wasn't aimed at you ;) It ws pointless indeed, but on a forum with teenagers it is expected :P

As said, please use the complaints forum, this thread has solved nothing and has simply caused an arguement which is not need for such a small matter.

Personally I can not see how this is classed as useful feedback, this is the feedback forum and no positive or constructive critizm/feedbeack is coming out of this :)

Im saying that habbox might want to make sure that if its in the criteria to become a mod that they make sure the mind reading skills bit is reviewed.

Judgement is a key part of moderation, and I can see why there is an issue, it's been raised a few times already. I can see why they removed it for being pointless, but for a teenager forum they really should allow small things like that. Heck, half the posters in the thread wanted to make an oral joke!
I'm not saying that he wasn't trying to be a smart *** but he really just said "I wish I had oral on Friday" would technically could mean that he did want an oral exam on Friday...
but yeah. If things like that are gunna be edited then there's a hell of a lot other things that could be too.. :eusa_whis

If you really want to achieve something, I'd suggest you drop that tone and start speaking like an adult, and moreover a not overly-sarcastic adult. You didn't even say in your first post what your complaint was about, just some sarcy comment about moderators.

Personally, I believe if the post is genuinely funny it has a point, and I usually leave it (as long as its loosely connected to the topic) or edit underneath saying "please stick to the topic" but leave it there. But some mods are stricter than others, he had every right to remove the post as it had nothing to do with what the thread starter was asking.
I don't think the issue is big enough to warrant sarcastic comments and start insulting all moderators though.

Edited by Thaddeus (Forum Moderator): Please do not post pointlessly. And do not reply with a smart comment to this edit as you clearly aren't talking about the test.
Since when was that in the mod guide. That mod edit is "looking" for trouble, i thought your not meant to provoke any fights!?

That's what I was thinking, it's not friendly is it. I guess there's a reasons your not supposed to stray from the edits.

Another problem with mods is that they cant speak 'proper' English.

To be fair I don't see Corporal making any insulting remarks here but agreed
he has not quite explained it clearly. Essentially he is asking if non-standard edits are appropriate especially if they are just 'in case' of a rule break which may or may not happen. Hollywood has given a valid view on this but Elkaa is the one to pm if you wish to take it further as he will be able to give you the present policy on edits . :)

I have to agree.
Other than the claim here, I see no point in this thread really.
It was a Pointless Post and all it took was the slightest bit of common sense to work out the little joke in the post.

Yeah, I spent a while thinking about that word but couldn't find the work I was looking for :P I was referring to the thread title "Problem with mods" which implies there is a problem with all mods, when in fact his complaint is only about one mod (and thats only when we managed to work out what it was about!).

Sometimes a post can be interpreted in different ways, and then it is up to a moderator to decide what the person who posted it meant.
This means that when you post it is your responsibility to make sure that your post cannot be read the wrong way. But it doesn't mean moderators can draw conclusions that are very far fetched. They still have to use common sense.

tbh looking at this thread icould easily separate the good moderators from the rubbish ones eg(good mod) "please use the complaints forum" that is good you see. (bad mod) "you really need to speak more like an adult" that is bad mod as 1. thats provoking more arguments. 2. this isn't an adult forum...

I dont understand why this thread was created. I think this could have been dealt with via PM to the appropriate person,I don't see the point of whinging in the feedback section. It seems to me this guy is just trying to have a pop at Habbo moderators for a small incident that has been puporsely blown out of proportion.

Well Sierk has actually answered his point so it's basically dealt with now.:)
