Right i want to pritty much, store all of my media files on the PC downstairs on the same network over wireless, and be able to acsess them upstairs, but with it not taking any hard drive off my laptop. Basically streaming music pictures and videos,
Is there anyway to do this if so how? + rep.

Doesn't media centre act as a media server for steaming content?

Say when you have Windows media player open on both computers, it will pop up asking you if you want to share content or something or other. I know it does that with my vista computers but not sure about XP.

Make the folders you want into sharing folders then you should be able to access those folders on your laptop as long as the PC is switched on.

Which OS is your Laptop and desktop on, Vista is so much more advanced in media sharing so it'll help :P
Just right click on the folder, click properties, click sharing and like share it across the network, on the other computer, go to My Network Places and look for it there or type the computer name in (like "\\computer") to see if the folder comes up there
