"Lightning is an atmospheric discharge of electricity"

Ok, the earth is hit by lightening roughly 200 times per second. If we can take this power from the lightening we could use the energy to power out everyday electronic goods, meaning that we wouldn't have to rely on fossil fuels which of course cause ''global warming''

I have provided a diagram which is too scale.

(Joke image aside, if we could use the 200 lightening hits per second as usable electric/energy we could help 'save' the earth)

So, basically we have some random alien things with grey hair, transporting boxes to a man with no face and Jeremy Clarkson is doing one journey for one of them as we have "POOOWEEEERRR".

Can you imagine catching lightning?

"Honey, I caught some"
*Lighten strikes*
ZZZZZTTTTTTT
Dead.

the diagram was just a bit of fun :(

That's actually a pretty good idea but I'm sure you aren't the first person to think of that so there's probably problems with doing it.. :P

And how are we supposedto predict exactly where the lightening is going to hit? o.0

i think we use soo much electricty even 200 lightening bolts a second would charge it all up and sorry for bad rgammr i cant be botherd lol

No, but if you had large metal beacons or something dotted around the earth, if you catch maybe 30 an hour that would still be a hell of alot of electricity.

Why do think they have lightning conductors for? (Not all do this though.. it'd be way too dangerous having approximately 30,000 celcius currents going through the ground from every bolt)

The size of the earth in comparison to the amount of lightning is huge. Pretty impossible.

Thinking about it, Ashley is right

We cant get enough electricity to power the whole world with lightening alone

Hi, if you read the thread you would see that your question has been replied too :)

I know, thats why I changed it

When I replied yesterday my internet cut off and I got the Page cannot be displayed message

Then right now I just hit Try Again and resent the info and it posted again

You're just too quick :(

I can bend the time space continuum like Hiro Nakamura :)

Haha Sam's quick

Super fast and super cool.
:cool_blue

I think the normal way of supplying power sounds... safer.

wouldnt happen mate cause lightning is important to clear out the air, otherwise there'd be mass storms if the lightning wasn't used for its purpose xoxo

this wouldnt work, I dont think that lightning is that strong and how are you going to catch it into useable energy, nice idea but it isnt going to happen ;)
