The next Grand Theft Auto sequel you buy..
COULD come from sports games king, Electronic Arts

After Electronic Art's failed attempt to purchase (http://www.cinemablend.com/games/EA-Offers-2-Billion-Take-Two-Says-Wait-9090.html) Take Two Interactive this weekend, much of the media's attention has been focused on T2's Grand Theft Auto (http://www.cinemablend.com/games/EA-s-Bid-For-Take-Two-Not-Just-About-GTA4-9112.html#) 4, which is set to be released on April 29th. True, Grand Theft Auto is a very lucrative series, but is it what EA really covets?

Wedbush-Morgan analyst Michael Pachter told GamePolitics (http://gamepolitics.com/2008/02/25/pachter-sports-drives-t2-deal-for-ea-gta-is-gravy/) that the true plunder of the EA purchase would be Take Two subsidiary 2K Sports (http://www.cinemablend.com/games/EA-s-Bid-For-Take-Two-Not-Just-About-GTA4-9112.html#). 2K Sports, of course, is the major competitor to EA Sports and the purchase would be a major coup in that regard. While a new Grand Theft Auto game might get released every couple of years, sports franchises have new installments every year. They produce arguably the steadiest profits of any video game genre.

So GOOD or BAD?

It states there that, If Electronic Arts, buys out T2, They will aim to release a game every year, rather than every couple of years.
Or is it too much?

Discuss!

aint it electronic arts as a whole who are attempting to buy out take two, not ea sports. as isnt that just a division within electronic arts.

& i couldnt care less aslong as the standards of gta are not lowered if they release it every year. but i dont it should be every year anyway.

They may release a game every year but how do we know the quality of game play will be the same as rockstar has offered us? I don't really like this news, I hope its rejected.

I like the fact that they have sold 65 Million copies.

And I remember reading in the sun, they have already made £200m out of pre-orders in the first week!

They have only sold 70m of the previous THREE games.

EA wants to buy Take-Two not just for the GTA franchise, and the highly awaited GTA IV, which has sold more than 65 million copies so far, but also for the company's sports business and critically acclaimed titles such as "BioShock."

So within one day.. it has sold 65m copies, and made 200m from Pre-Orders, And are 5m off, there other THREE games, in ONE day.

I dont think EA want it to increase sales, or release new games into the sequel, I think they are money grabbing.

"Take-Two Interactive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take-Two_Interactive) measured the global pre-order demand at 6 million units or $400 million" $400m = around £200m
6 million isnt 65 million....

EA put in a bid at the beginning of April, knowing that GTA IV Will be a massive hit.
T2 refused it, EA have now offered $2 Billion.
Thats around £1 billion.

Also, the name VIVENDI, who are keen to buy out SULAKE, has bought out Activision and now makes the Guitar Hero games.

EA, which has long enjoyed its status as the world's largest game software publisher, will also face a worthy new rival later this year when French media conglomerate Vivendi combines its games unit with Activision Inc. (nasdaq: ATVI (http://finapps.forbes.com/finapps/jsp/finance/compinfo/CIAtAGlance.jsp?tkr=ATVI) - news (http://www.forbes.com/markets/company_news.jhtml?ticker=ATVI)- people (http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/results.jhtml?startRow=0&name=&ticker=ATVI)), the company behind the successful "Guitar Hero" series. That deal, which will give Vivendi a majority stake in a new company called Activision Blizzard, won European regulatory approval this week.

Sounds good, so many companies are getting sold.
