Hey.
I have my own hosting company.
And I get a phone call from council saying I need to pay business tax.

Anyone heard of this before?

Thanks.
Joey.

From your council? that's very strange. Someone probably did a whois and played a prank.

Always ask for some kind of ID.

I think it depends on which country your server is hosted in.

Ask for a written letter as confirmation, but don't give them your address. If they are the real council, they'd know it anyway.

The council wouldn't be having such a phone call, it would be from HM Revenue & Customs. They deal with VAT; I also sincerely doubt that your income is over £67,000 a year. If it is, then you must register for VAT!

Yeah, that sounds right.. It wouldn't be from your council, and council's first form of contact would be letter, then a visitor, then if you don't pay maybe a baliff.
