Hey,
I know I was going to make a custom PC, however, I couldn't be bothered to wait months just to get 700 odd pounds. So I went on dell and got a PC for 438.99 pounds :) and I've purchased it and I will upgrade it every now and again :)

I know the GFX isn't good but I can upgrade it :P
So what do you think?

Pretty good, If I we're you I'd customize the RAM to a higher spec, but 2GB is around the minimum to use many huge program's (Such as Bryce)

2GB is fine, 2GB is now the average amount of RAM.
Good luck upgrading the GFX card with a Dell.

Whats hard about upgrading a gfx on dell? Open it, Insert new gfx, close it, turn it on.
I don't see the hard part in that...
And I will also beupgrading:
CPU, RAM & probably case :)
I think it will work out cheaper then custom :P

You can't do the case as the motherboard isn't standard. RAM is easy, CPU I think will require a new Vista/XP Key.

Its only when you change the motherboard, that you need a new key

I know what I am talking about. :/
The CPU would be considered as a major upgrade I would have thought? I would go check this up on the MS site or something.

I don't really like the case, graphics card, and sound card.. I would never go with integrated sound.
It sounds like **** :P
The mobos on Dells are great, they aren't "standard", but they are easy to upgrade dispite what everyone says.

I'm pretty sure you don't, I swapped in a new CPU in my old 8300, didn't need a new one for XP.

Ok, I did a bit of Google'ing and found it was different for OEM and Retail editions of XP/Vista, Dell will use OEM. Apparently OEM copies just look for the same motherboard so you can upgrade anything else.

Retail looks for hardware, there must be 6 out 10 hardware the same for it to activate.

Well RAM, GFX and CPU cant be one of them xD as they are standard changeable components.
Also, Intergrated sound is fine... I have no problems with it.

Did I only see the integrated graphics card in there? From what I've experienced with my old Dell, they're pretty poor for pretty much any gamesmade within the last 5 years or so. Then again, I got mine in 04 so idk what the standard is like now. Dells are always a safe bet, nothing special but good value and good longetivity, mine was running for the best part of 4 years before the HDD burnt out :P
Whoever said changing the graphics card in a Dell is hard... it really isn't. I'd never taken apart any component of a PC before, took me about 20 mins with no guidance whasoever, worked absolutely fine.

They obviously didn't know how a computer works. I can't wait for it to be delivered :D 23/05/08 or sooner it will be delivered :D
I wasn't sure about the GFX upgrade, but I know you need to buy special RAM from Dell if you wanna upgrade RAM.

why would you need to?
Ram is ram, you just see which type of RAM it is, buy the same kind and plop it in.

Hmmm. I'm NEVER a fan of Dells as sure they are "cheap" and their specs look great on paper then suck when you actually run it. I went through 3 Dells in a year trying to get a computer which actually did what I wanted. All with pretty high specs at just more than you've paid. I just don't trust that company anymore, they even charge prices which aren't listed for example from their TV adverts.
Still see how it goes and tell us, interesting to see how they are now. I have to say JAL is a great alternative to Dell. They give things such as free surround sound systems with your computer and replace anything which doesn't work for free. I ended up with two surround sound systems.

Been using Dells since about 2000 and they have been great, never had one break on me. I fail to see how it would suck at running if its specs were the same as say iFuseDan's which would run very well...

I agree, Usually the reason i go for a Dell, as i know that if something goes wrong with it the Customer Service for me has always been upto scratch so i know i dont have to hassle around with it :P
And no way do i have the skills 'yet' to build my own from scratch.

There is a Mac section for a reason. And actually, to turn it on all you need is a power cable and ethernet cable once an OS is installed, then you could just remote desktop it.
