Hey,
I began coding FLUX properly yesterday and so I thought I'd post some small previews :)
I'm expecting to have a fully working BETA around July/August (as I'll be doing exams and will be on holiday for some time aswell so it'll take longer to code).
The previews don't show much, so sorry about that :P

The previews make the site look bare, ugly and empty - but I promise you, it isn't when you see it live :P
Just on a personal note aswell, I'm happy to say after coding about 20% of the core class I strongly feel that I have improved my php standard and ability immensly (in terms of knowledge and OOP) so well, expect something pretty good by the time of the first beta (;

From what I can see it looks like an exact copy of Virb... :S
Your buttons, boxes and content style look to be a direct influence from Virb.

The buttons are not final designs, I can tell you that now ;)
I don't see the box similarity as all the boxes are, are divs with background colours and maybe a border on the bottom. Most sites use this style now (such as facebook).
The rest is nothing like Virb ;)

The register button and andrew w.k. looks gay, apart from that it looks p. damn nice.

Well I suppose if they did look similar then it wouldn't matter as both sites are aiming to different areas of social networking. Unless you've decided against Flux being for music?
Also did you get the name Flux from Bloc Party's latest song? :P

True, but I wouldn't want my site being perceived as a copy of Virb :P
Also did you get the name Flux from Bloc Party's latest song?
lol, nah :P I think I got it from MTV Flux, not sure.

1) The register button isn't final, so that's no issue
2) Andrew W.K is a placeholder until I find a worthy artist/band to use :P

I can see where you are coming from.
Since I began the Klydo projected, I have seen my knowledge of PHP grow more then I could have imagined.
I swear, I have rewrote the Klydo core about 15 times now, just because I find new and better ways to do things.
It really is a great way to learn./

I assume if you're using OOP you have a function to load classes in automatically?
Dentafrice
06-05-2008, 01:42 AM
Not a function, I don't have any PHP functions outside of classes.
I start my main database and site core within the configuration file, and end them all in the footer.
The individual classes are started on the pages that need them, and end on the pages that need them.
No use loading classes that won't be needed on certain pages.

Yeah, which a function to load them would be best suited to.

There is a section in the core that handles class management, but I don't have a function that just calls them all at once.
It is setup where each page has hooks, and in the page information it tells what needs to be done in what hook.

Sounds a bit complicated to me, should just be something to do:
$this->$class_name = new $class_name();
$this->$class_name->core = $this;

see i understand classes and how you can refer to them or sumthing
class Display {
const Monkey = "Monkeys Like Bannanas";
const Giraffe = "Giraffes like trees";
const Tigers = "Tigers like people";
}
$animal = $_SESSION[animal];
print "Display::$animal";
Or something :S
But i don't get the $this> thing yet.
I find it funny how theres Flux + Klydo. Imo they should team up :P
Unless they are completely different?

Klydo is a General Social Network where as Flux is a Music Social Network. Klydo is in the area such as MySpace, Bebo and Netlog. While Flux is more with places like PureVolume and Last.FM.
It would be pretty cool is Klydo and Flux teamed up in some respected. However I don't see how it would benefit either parties or our users. We can't really offer Flux anything and Flux can't really offer us anything.

I'm loving the design aspect from what I can see and I'm sure it'll be really nice when it's open, goodluck with it Mr.Invent :)

$this - I believe (I am not an expert get this verified) refers to something inside a class, ie. nested functions; class-global variables and a few other ways ex.
// in a db class
protected function myF {
$this->query("")
// etc, this being calling another function defined or not defined, as long as it is defined at one point - we can bypass having a function already as calling the new when you use the class will go through it all, giving you room to move functions about.

Dentafrice, using classes is very easy..you shouldn't really need a table in MySQL with dependancies... I see the reason behind it, but won't it just slow things down overall?

If "using classes is very easy" then why say this:
$this - I believe (I am not an expert get this verified) refers to something inside a class, ie. nested functions; class-global variables and a few other ways ex.
You have known what a class was for like a month now, after you begged and begged me to teach you, now you act like your a genius.
Get over yourself.

Well you didn't help the matter by trying to accuse us of ripping then when we proved we hadn't by involving the owner of the other site you rapidly changed your mind and tried to blame the other owner. You're not a person who can give out advice when you yourself are very mixed up.

Giving free advice is stupid, dictating what people must do is more efficient :8
