Who do you think is or was the best singer in the world? For me it has to be Whitney Houston, even though I don't like her style of music I still know that she is a great singer and probally does have the greatest voice in the world and I don't see how anyone can disagree with that.

Yeah I agree but his voice may of gone a bit as he hasn't done any new material for ages as he's been a bit... busy? I'd say Amy Winehouse atm even though she might her voice might break soon or something with the amount of drugs she consumes

There's no competition. Only one man has proved to the world he rules the music industry and that's Michael Jackson. His voice is so bloody addictive that you instantly try and copy it when listening to one of his songs, if anyone tries to deny it then we all know you're lieing. Only he has the image (even though it's rather odd now) that everyone knows and he has even made a whole dance style (sure he never invented the moonwalk, Bill Bailey did). The only person who comes close is the late and extremely great Johnny Cash. However he never really sung he spoke more but that's what he was famous for and how he stood out.

Michael Jackson is and always will be the master of music even at the age on 50.

It's asking who the best singer is, not the best performer or entertainer.

Yeah the only 'new' material i've been hearing lately is Akon doing a cover of his previous songs & fall out boy. I hope you're true, I personally think atm is between Leona Lewis & Mariah. I'd say Mariah Carey... but I hate her attitude after that video of her singing live and when one of the backing singers accidently said one of her lines, so she turned round, pointed at the backing singers and sang infront of everyone "stop singing my lines now babyyy", or something along those lines

That was his Thriller 25th Anniversary album he did. Since then he's been working on some new things.

He's an amazing singer as well as a performer and entertainer. He puts a lot of emotion into what he sings.

i guess it depends on the style of music, really. some voices fit well with certain styles.

but thom yorke ftw. he has such wide range, and he sings like he's posessed. when he sings, you can hear his emotions. like at the end of "fake plastic trees," you can hear him slightly crying.

and i'll say jeff mangum of neutral milk hotel for similar reasons. he sings like it's the only way to get any emotion out.

What's so bad about that? She still sang, she didn't start bawling and screaming at her did she? At the end of the day Mariah is better than Madonna.
