View Full Version : Are you proud to be British?

I was reading the Newsround forums and the majority of kids on there all hate Britain and hate everything it is now and ever was, or they're either Welsh and say their proud of being Welsh but not British. Obviously these kids are all just pessimist's and have been brain washed by the BBC and their panic-like ways but I was just wondering what teenagers thought of Britain?
Are you proud to be British?
I'm not proud of the Iraqi war at all, I'm not proud of being in the EU, I'm not proud of Gordon brown and the majority of his government but I must admit I'm very proud to be British, we have a fantastic history, a very relaxed right to freedom and we live in a multicultural society. Not only that but we're rather rich, pretty good army (now and then) and we're one of the few countries to still have a monarchy and we lead the commonwealth with counties like Australia and Canada?

There's not many other nationalities I'd like to be, America has lots to be proud of, but lots of things not to be so proud of, I wouldn't mind being Norwegian, Swedish, Canadian or Australian.

Overall, yes i'm pretty proud. Of my heritage of atleast. The british empire really. Yeah, yeah we built our empire on slavery, but so did everyone. And we make up for it with the billions of pounds we give back.

I'm not British but I guess I am from birth but I don't mind it, although the majority of Irish hate Britain I'm not one that hates them. Britain is one of the most powerful countries in the world, and long live it :)

sorry but where do you want to live? theres no eutopia. Everywhere has downsides. even switzerland, one of the most clean-cut and efficient countries has a downside. Google needle park and you'll see what i mean.
I'm proud to be British, but at the moment Britain is a mess lol.

I am proud of being British but I'm more proud of being Welsh. Most people who are Scottish or Welsh will say they are more proud of their own country than the UK as a whole, as they are the minority.

I'm proud that I understand the concept of queueing. I went on a ski trip in France andt all of us were in a long line for the drag lifts. Then, some French s**** come down the slope and just jump in front of the whole queue! I really wanted to shout at them. But anyway yeh I'm proud of being British.
[Btw, your poll is wrong. Being Scottish or Welsh still means that you are British!]

[Btw, your poll is wrong. Being Scottish or Welsh still means that you are British!]Yeah I know, it's because lots of Scottish and Welsh aren't proud of Britain, but are proud of their own money grabbing countries instead. I wouldn't be saying that if I was Scottish but it's so unfair how lots hate England and reap England's tax money to get exclusive things.
Well I'm not British, but I like living here. It's a lot better than from where I come from. :)

Britain does NOT include Ireland. Britain is England, Wales and Scotland. Including Ireland makes up the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland wanted to stay a part of the Kingdom in contrast to the rest.
I am not overly proud to be British; I would prefer to leave, and this country is a mess. I am looking forward to when the Torries win the next GE.

Let's face it. Whatever they do to video games is not gonna help.
The reason Britain is a ****** up place is simply because we are to soft on criminals.

Where is the 'No but I'm proud to be English' option!?
The country needs to stamp down on immigration and improve the education system.

I am very proud of being British AND English, you can't say you'd rather live in many other countries than this great one we live in? EVERY Country has it's downsides, and i'm sure our problems will be sorted when the Conservative party come into power(Can't wait, brown = nub) but anyway, we have great heritage/history, OVERALL the best army in the world and special forces, we also donate lots of money to other countries when they're in need, but i'm NOT proud of the imigration, i support LEGAL immigration when they migrants are taking up jobs wich we need, but anything other than that is a big nono, this country was great and still is in my eyes. I also find it discusting that Wales and Scotland aren't proud to be britain, as we pay for all of Scotlands college fees and university fee's etc, and pay for LOADS of other bills/taxes for Wales and Scotland, so if you say your proud to be Welsh or Scottish, then you have to say your proud of Britain/U.K to, as you would not be there if it weren't for England, and i'd rather not live anywhere else.
Long live Britain, and England/Wales/Scotland/Ireland.
As a whole, were simply one of the greatest nations on this very planet, we should never fall apart.
Stacey.

Yes, but I hate the stereotypes that come with being British. Americans especially, seem to think all British people drink tea, eat scones and speak posh.

Well I don't mind that cos it is traditional. It's lucky they don't think the stereotypical British person isn't fat or polish.

Lol adding to RareLime :P I hate how Americans think we know everyone in the UK. When my brother's girlfriend went to Florida, they were asking questions like "Do you know such and such who lives in Blackpool" when she said she lived in Essex... Do you really expect we know how ever many millions of people there are here :P But I guess Americans have it worse with stereotypes.
