God Almighty, I never expected this. Ever since I displayed the above e-mail in my article I posted earlier this week about girls who make a dog’s dinner of their make-up, I’ve had an abundance of e-mails telling me how much of a **** I am, some asking if I’m gay, some telling me that I rule and even one asking my “ASL”. I don’t give out my ASL you ******s.
But there were one or two ones that really stuck out. They were asking for my “Xbox Live Gamertag” so they could “kik my *** at halo 3”. I don’t have an Xbox 360 and I don’t plan on getting one any time soon you morons. Why? Because they suck.
My mate Matthew has one and I have to say that it is the biggest load of crap that I’ve ever used. The console itself looks like a huge plastic turd out of Bill Gates’ **** and the controllers look like something from 2001 A Space Odyssey.
The only thing I was even remotely impressed by was the game itself, which was GTA IV which has to be the best game I’ve ever played. Ever. The rest was ********.
Which is why I am going to buy a PS3. The online play is free, the games are better (ahem, Gran Turismo 5) and it is well more reliable.
So while all you Microsoft fanboys are busy with sucking every last willy you can lay your hands on, I’ll be playing the greatest racing simulator ever (GT5) and the greatest game ever (GTA4) on my masterpiece 5kg Japanese monstrosity. Enjoy your red ring of death or whatever the hell it’s called, you losers.
I am not a 360 fanboy but I own one. Even if I didnt own one, I could consider that bad for an official or infact any fansite.
Notice the forum has filtered loads of the words in the articles

I really do question how Habbox did become official. The radio is ok, the site content for Habbo is ok, but other things don't really add up!
To be fair though, it's an OK article and if he gets fired the reason would be a bit silly. I guess that's the problem with official status rules :P

Ah, I can see your issue here.
Perhaps it is a bit extreme yes but nothing to get in a tizz for.
Even before we got official the rules are that swearing should be kept at an absolute minimum.

No I disagree...
*REMOVED*
That sentence alone should be enough for management to go "hang on... that was on a massively offencive level"
Its against the fansite way and the forum rules.
If that was posted on the forum the person would get an infraction... and to quote MAD himself:
"Staff set an example for the site and shouldnt break the rules"
(It was along those lines anyway)

The swearing has been removed. The actual article isn't that bad... being official doesn't mean you can't have an opinion. There are just ways and means of going about it.
I can understand people protesting against the swearing but anybody saying the whole article is bad is a bit out of order as it is only his thoughts. He's left his email there for counter-criticism!
And @ the thread starter... the thread title is a bit harsh. It was one article, not articles

His article was a reaction to people emailing him.
For one should he be posting a personal email adress on the site?
Also, there was no reason for him to reply to emails in that tone in a public way.
You'll be lucky if nobody from other sites complained.

I think it's being over-exaggerated and I don't think there are any rules about him putting an email address. I personally would like to get some email feedback but I don't want my inbox spammed haha.
And still, he didn't name any people nor did he post email content so I don't see the issue about his tone. He's allowed to be annoyed. It's his opinion.
If other sites complain then it'd be pointless because any offensive (swearing) text has been removed.

What's exactly wrong with the article?
He's a critic discussing his opinions on the Xbox and so on , it may be strongly worded but if you actually watch tv shows or read articles in magazines with people discussing their opinions you'd find articles exactly like this.
This wasn't even a bad read, sites need more articles like this which express peoples opinions in a humorous way and are not long lectures which no actual teen would be bothered in reading.
Inseriousity.

Yeah, I do believe the rules for official fansites are a bit daft...
On HabboValley, I interviewed someone who mentioned they would love to have 'posh furniture' on Habbo like chandeliers etc... so I called the title 'Victoria Beckham of HabboValley' (she was the forum manager at the time).... and apparently, the official fansite 'handbook' says that article names aren't meant to be interesting but informative so my article was changed to 'Sianness, HabboValley Forum Director.' How is that meant to attract anybody?
Lame rules that need to be changed. In that article though, the language is kind of strong and may need to be toned down a bit but the article topic isn't offensive... :)

That's a bit of big-headed view on the official status and it's all down to opinion really. Habbox doesn't need the official status, never really has considering the benefits are already there, but now there are restrictions that will just cause the management to focus on keeping that status, and staff have to be told what to do incase they offend or do something that is against some Fansite Way.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, I've been away since about 2PM yesterday so this has only just come to my attention.
Firstly, I'd like to point out to Favourtism my PM box (as well as the senior writers'). It isn't difficult to send a PM alerting one of us to the matter instead of kicking up a fuss in public.
But as for the article: MAD pm'd me with a link to this thread explaining in the PM that he felt the language was too strong and the amount of opinionation (for want of better word) was far too high. Now, I cannot argue at all with the fact that the swearing is far too far, and Dan has been a writer long enough to know that it isn't allowed, so I shall be addressing that issue.
However, as Shane and Joey have said, the article was still entertaining. Entertainment is the main aim of every article posted, whether it be through tension, laughter, horror, intregue or other means. The fact that it is controversial and opinionated to me is irrelavent, in fact it helps to up the level of entertainment by getting people to think about what they've read, and email him back with comments. Every article written is a demonstration of the writer's opinion anyway, that's what seperates them from news reports. If MAD doesn't like opinions in articles, I think I'll be having a serious talk about what output is actually desired from this department, because reading room reviews and site reviews 24/7 is only fun for so long!

Sorry about that, it came across more arrogant than it meant to! What I was trying to say is that although Habbox doesn't need the status it is a nice recognition to show that the work the staff puts in really is valued but it seems you may be right in the idea that the site may cut back a little on what it really thinks and if that does happen and the staff get overly-regulated well, it'll be very sad.
I totally agree with you Alex... nobody wants to read reviews all day. As good as they are, articles means so much more.

No! lol I didn't mean you were arrogant, I just thought it would make Habbox seem arrogant that they need an image to be recognised, even though they get thousands of viewers daily :P As long as Habbod on't impose annoying rules which lower the easy standards of Habbox (although they do need to be a bit more easier), then it's fine, but working towards a badge and judging by the lack of replies since the run up for it, wasn't really worth it considering users did get ignored alot the past few weeks...
I think a thread on the article was a good idea, so you get a strong, second opinion on the article. It was good, just a bit rude. Is the article going to have the rude bit (sucking willy I believe? :P) removed and the rest remain the same, it'll be a waste really...

As far as I know there's nothing in the official fansite rules regarding the topic and content of articles, except that they should be appriate for children (so no sex or no swearing and all that). Those are the rules the department operates by anyway, so nothing should change.

Strange rule considering Habbo is aimed at teenagers, or has that changed for some reason? Oh just read the last bit, I suppose that's reasonable although some may disagree with you when there are websites out there that are heavily critical and end up using such vulgarities.

I know. It's like most teenagers know about sex, alcohol etc in the first place so refering to it isn't exactly bad. What's bad is if some staff member put on one of their articles 'sex is really good. Do it and don't do it safely because that's just lame as' but which sane person would really do that?
That's nothing about Habbox btw. This is more about Habbo's weird rules as if it's a game for 6-9 year olds not 11-18...

Not all our articles are going to be about Habbo just like there is an outside Habbo news section. If you think about it, a large number of the Habbox community don't actually play Habbo so by talking just about Habbo we'd be alienating a large part of our target audience.

Jesus Christ almighty am I the only one here that can see that this whole article as blindingly obvious sarcasm? Jesus, by the sounds of things it seems that some people need to lighten up a bit and stop being a bunch of crybabies. Christ on a bloody bike.
Upon saying that, however, I like to consider myself a reasonable guy and I don't actually intend to offend anyone with my articles. It seems as though that some people like to take mild insults personally and if you are one of those people, then I'm sorry. I'm also sorry in advance too, because I don't plan on changing my style of writing. I have been told countless times that my rants are exceptional, and I tend to remind people of other "ranty" article writers like Jeremy Clarkson or Maddox. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Exactly, I think that sums up the thread in a nutshell. Maybe I'm biased becuse that's my style of writing too, but I've always found Dan's articles entertaining, although I don't agree with some of them, but that just makes it more interesting.
Myself & the senior writers will see to it that no such swearing is allowed to remain on site again, and I have full confidence in Dan that he won't trying anything like that in the future.
