Played one of these. They were like 10 people that played on the server. MASSACRE WOW i think.

Most private servers have few but loyal players, its great if you dont have the time needed to get to level 70 on retail WoW. Plus, max levels are higher plus custom gear, its all good and exciting.

The uptime isnt the best, most are up for like 16hours+ a day.
I used to play on a privet server with about 100 people on it. It was like a nice little community but then i got back into retail and i think retail is so much better. Just my opinion though.
I don't think your get it popular by advertising on here though, you will only get like 4/5 people if that. ;P

Private servers are a complete waste of time unless you just want to play around with a different spec before wasting your gold to do it on actual WoW.

Private servers are a complete waste of time unless you just want to play around with a different spec before wasting your gold to do it on actual WoW.People play private servers for all sorts of reasons. I spent all of last summer doing GM and Admin work on a private server. It was nothing more than just answering the large flow of tickets that came through, it was quite fun once you got into the whole community of it. All the time I was doing the work I was still paying for my retail account but I was bored of it at the time. I couldn't see the attraction of playing on the servers normally because of the fact I had a retail account, although some people chose to play because it was free and much more fun to them. Although some are riddled with bugs it's not really a bad experience.

With that said though, considering Burlex has decided not to release the Ascent code to the public for the time been and just keep updating Wowscape most private servers will become out of date soon enough and that's when things might change. It depends how long and if Burlex decides to make Ascent open source once again.
