Al Qaeda 'Planning Euro 2008 Attack'

Al Qaeda is planning to attack the Euro 2008 football championships in Switzerland and Austria in June, Swiss police say.

"The Euro 2008 tournament is a target cited by the Islamist terrorist network," federal police spokesman Juerg Buehler told Swiss newspaper La Liberte.
He said messages had been posted on Islamist websites and police were "following the situation very closely".
One of the messages urges terrorists to "transform the safest countries in Europe to the hell seen in Iraq or Afghanistan".
"The time has come for the fighters of the faith. They must make their voices heard," said another.
Authorities fear the global media coverage of the tournament will make it an attractive target for an attack.
Security will be tight in and around the grounds, and extra checks will be made on people buying tickets from "high-risk" areas in the Middle East, the newspaper reported.
The federal government's security budget for the tournament is said to top £18m.

They're not guessing that there is going to be an attack it's posted on an extremist website... it's called "intelligence". You don't just say "oh they're bound to bomb us because they're muslim."

That isn't the issue here... the issue is that terrorists are going to attack Euro 2008. Mainly due to the media attention but when you think about it they will do the same with the olympics. I can imagine security will be tight in london when 2012 comes along.

They aren't saying anything "awful"? They are saying they have identified a threat and they are dealing with it as best they can. Extremist Muslims are a threat. Since 9/11, the global terror network has become increasingly active and nowadays even Average Joe Muslim who is exposed to extremism is capable of trying to make things go boom.
Don't get me wrong, it's only a small majority of people within a massive religion but the problem is still there. If we simply ignored that problem because of the fear Muslims may be offended by it, then we would be well and truly ******!

What are you talking about? Of course the police would automatically suspect you! That's obvious. You have form and you are hanging around a scene where someone was attacked. No they're not going to ask you anything :rolleyes:.
The Swiss have every authority to start accusing, I have a sneaky suspicion the Swiss SIS has a better idea what it's talking about than you. An important part of intelligence gathering is based around the internet, where "chatter" in regard to attacks planned for the future can be found. This chatter is what often begins an investigation which can stop attacks. If they didn't spend large amounts on security, those extremists who want to cause as much damage as possible will exploit that lack of security and havoc would ensue. Big events need lots of security in this day and age.

You are unbelievably naive. If there is an attack but it gets foiled, we won't hear about it anyway (more than likely). The Swiss aren't being racist, and neither am I. As I said in my last post it's only a small minority of Muslims who convert to extremism but nevertheless the problem is real. 9/11 and 7/7 are not one offs! Britain's Security Service and the Metropolitan Police Counter-Terrorism Command are currently monitoring 30 active terror plots in the UK at this time. Admittedly not all of them will be Muslim Extremists but, without being racist, one can guarantee that a large proportion of those active plots involve Muslim extremists. 30 plots is a lot. You are hiding behind the excuse that Britain is racist, and I won't lie, a lot of people are racist, but when you look at the cold hard facts it is clear that Terrorism is a massive threat all over the world.

I was going to scan on a letter from a meeting but i could only reports from when he's on duty and some ex-police things (id gladly show you if you still didnt believe me). May I refer you to my earlier post, here (http://www.habboxforum.com/showpost.php?p=4742258&postcount=22). There are currently 30 active terror plots in the UK. If that's the amount now, it seems like there have been many attempted attacks in the past. It is part of the Security Service's and the Secret Intelligence Service's job to identify and neutralise terrorist threat, which means it's very likely they do this often. You can't know, but it's incredibly likely.

Many files have been released by secret services such as MI5, MI6 and the CIA, etc, from years ago that show terror threats that were never released to the public.
