I have probably posted this in the wrong place, so if I have - sorry.

I've been thinking about the main Habbox Website (Habbox.com). It uses a free content management system called Joomla.
Just an idea, why doesent Habbox stop that idea? and use more 'Habbo'ey type designs? And because more user friendly? Because at the moment, it doesent look fully like a Habbo Fansite tbh.

I appriciate this may take quite a bit of time, being as Habbox is quite a big fansite (In terms of content and members).
I very much doubt this will get used, and ill probs get lots of ranting people telling me "NONONONONONO!", but its just an idea to the management.

Apparently we are getting a new layout soon. but personally I quite like the current layout as it is very simple , nice to look at, easy to customize aswell as looking very professional.
Most sites nowadays are tending to move away from the classic Habbo style sites and making them Joomla based like Habbox.

Eh, good for Habbox if it is. People have different opinions. Habbox layout is good.. but its using Joomla. And a free layout (i think).

I just think itd be good for a change to come to the site - I havent seen a change like this for a while.

I like the way it is personally, but I did find that they modded a template they found on the net, just to their own banner and background mind :P

Habbox itself, is more Habbo'ey than the forum.

The forum is for discussions of many subject, and they have a variey of skins you can chose.

Why would Habbox.com itself, need to look more Habbo'ey?, They are achieving more than other fansites, getting more views, and they have a very popular forum.

something must be working well

Yeah I suppose lol. But the staff are dedicated(ish), lots of other fansite arent - surely thats one reason?

I didnt mean the forum, I dont have much of a problem with it. Except some other issues that dont fit into this - I wont say.

Habbox is good at content, I'm just not 100% keen on the layout.

It's in Joomla so they're pretty limited to layouts..

Stop using Joomla LOL? and make their own stuff up, it gives them a wider range of things to do. Easy peasy! (may take a while to merge the content and all to suit it though).

Not really, it just takes a lot of coding and stuffs and some things are limited but can still be customised in a number of ways

I'm tihnking one of the reasons they use Joomla and will stick with it is because of the user systems it comes with, easily allowing staff to login and get to what they need to, and being able to set permissions for different people so things don't go crazy if someone gets hacked

Yeah, good point. But other systems can be made? Its not too hard if your good at PHP.

Just thinking, why doesent Habbox have a new brand spanking layout. But make the content part of a CMS? Might be a tad easier. I dunno lols!

As you can probably tell im not the best at explaining, but In my head I know what I mean

We plan to continue to use Joomla but we are upgrading the software soon to a more recent version along with releasing the new layout that is being developed. We acknowledge that there are issues that exist with the current layout and it needs improvement and we hope that when the new layout is released it will sort all issues and will be a great success. :) It takes time however to fully redesign the layout and make it work with the software as we have to ensure that we do not loose any functionality from the site when we release the new layout so that is why this is going to take longer than you might imagine along with the fact we want it to be as good as possible when released.

We have no plans of stopping our use of Joomla :P The different levels of access for many people along with the combination of Habbo Pages, competitions, donations pages, HxHD Pages, Habbox Today, Articles, Commentsm etc etc would make it extremely difficult for us to effectively create a system that easily allowed us to all coordinate and allow all the departments to function effectively.

However we're working on working with Joomla for a new layout as has been said.

Joomla does what we need just fine. There are many advantages of using opensource software. Having someone develop a cms for us would cost a lot of time and money and we would have to rely on that person to develop it in the future and fix any bugs/security holes whilst now, we can rely on Joomla to keep the software secure and we can focus on content ;).

It's very much like telling us why we don't code our own forum software. There is simply no need.

I think you should do competitions for things like:

WIN 3 MONTHS VIP!

Ok here at habbox we would like YOU to create us a layout!

Why because you could win 3 months VIP!

----

Then because you have done this you may get more money in because once peoples VIP is over they might enjoy it so much they want more!

I like the current classic Habbox layout but i must admit, i prefer more colourful squidgey looking layouts, rounded corners make things looks nicer also :)
