Okay, I want to find out your music cycle, from genre to genre from the years past away..

Eg.

Mine is:

Pop -> Hip-Hop > RNB -> Rap -> Grime/DNB.

So I started listening to pop and now I listen to Grime and Drum and bass.

my music taste hasn't really changed... i only REALLY started listening to it last year so i listened to indie then, and i listen to indie now, along with pretty much every other genre.

But what kinda music is Indie?

indie in the uk is different from indie in the u.s. uk indie is mostly bands returning to the good ol' days of punk but in a different light- different structures and virtually all drums in 2/2. i.e. arctic monkeys, klaxons, etc.

indie in the U.S. is incredibly broad. its definition has been getting skewed in recent years with the popularity of former indie bands signing to major labels. but its mostly bands in experimentation or broadening a local sound. the most recent phenomena are bands mixing very old basics of folk with new styles (arcade fire, bright eyes), but "indie" can even mean electronic bands (the postal service, lcd soundsystem). it's impossible to define to one specific sound, but there is certainly an indie scene in the u.s., and it's been growing like mad recently.


anyway, back on topic. when i was 10 or so, i went on a massive beatles phase, as i'm sure everyone does. i was pretty much convinced there was no such thing as another band. but times, they change. i started listening to mostly pop (whatever was popular) around 11, but i quickly found alternative rock. jimmy eat world were my heroes for years. that gave way to heavier stuff, like system of a down and chevelle etc. and when i was 14, i discovered modest mouse, and my life hasn't been the same since. i didn't know there were bands who used instruments like they did and had such strange songs. it opened up a whole new world, and since i've delved deep into more interesting music, stuff thats unpredictable and unprecedented. thus radiohead are logically my favorite band.

ahah mines changed so much it's just weird:

Gangsta Rap (HUGE PHASE)- Death Metal - Emo (HUGE PHASE)- Indie/Alt - DnB - Indie/Alt - Grime

but yeah now it's mostly Indie/Alt and Grime and some Dance, but some songs from other genres appeal to me :D
