Have you by acny chance set your PC up to manually obtain an IP from the router rather than use DHCP? As you may haveleft the DNS server spaces blank.

On my connection properties

"Optain IP Address automatically" is selected
"Optain DNS Server Address automatically" is selected

and in advanced it says that DHCP is enabled

Hmm i'm not sure then. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

Does it work fine on your sisters?

Steve,

Just setup manual DNS - if you change the DNS services to be: 208.67.220.220, and 208.67.222.222 (these are provided by opendns.org) then it'll bypass your router for DNS, and SHOULD resolve the issue.

Kind Regards,

Turn internet off for 30 seconds, reboot it.

Then try to log in for MSN, and wait for that to fix it, OR click troubleshoot on internet settings.

If all fails, call your provider.

Go onto command prompt and type in 'ipconfig /flushdns'.

That would be a waste because its probably some simple thing i need to do

Go onto command prompt and type in 'ipconfig /flushdns'.

Tried that

I've asked already, does any other computer connected to the router work i.e. your sisters?

Stevehere

Well she uses a mac so can't say abotu ie but she going out soon so I can check to see if she can ping websites okay

Well it doesn't work for her then it's probably a problem with the router or ISP, but if it's just you then it's either your computer or a setting on the router not allowing yours to work properly.

It must be something on my computer

my sisters mac can ping sites etc so can't be the router

also when I just plug computer to modem (without the router) it still happens so it can't be the router settings

No matter even if you have norton installed run the removal tool - will remove traces of norton internet security - reason being is that most computers (other then self-built) generally come with it pre-installed. You can grab it from http://www.symantec.com/symnrt - You'd be suprised how many computers I've fixed that had a "norton" issue even though it wasnt actively installed.

In command prompt run the following commands (without quotes)

Command 1: "netsh int ip reset c:\reset.log"
Command 2: "netsh winsock reset"
Command 3: "netsh firewall reset"

Then reboot your computer, if your running vista and UAC is enabled you'll have to right click the shortcut to "Command Prompt" in start menu, then click "Run as Administrator".

I'm not sure if you've tried this, but open up network connections, and right click on Realtek fast ethernet PCI-E, and select properties. On the scrolling list select Internet Protocol TCP/IPv4. Fill it out as follows:

Check off "Use the following IP address:"
IP address: 192.168.2.115
subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1

Use the following DNS server checked
Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
Alternate DNS Server leave blank.

I've told you to set a manual IP address (static IP) as well as to define your own DNS information. On Vista you could have just set the DNS server without the static IP, but I recommend using the static IP address too.

If the above doesn't work, open up internet explorer, can you access http://192.168.2.1 ?

Also, some applications have a habbit of causing these symtoms, I suggest you try a system restore if all else fails (start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore)

call the company you got hosting from
Hosting would be a sub-product of an ISP..

Login to your router -> Restore to factory settings -> Set everything to get dynamically from ISP -> Enter your ISP credentials (if required)

If that hasn't worked, get your

primary and secondary DNS IP's from your ISP (Phone them)

If your internet is still not working, then contact your ISP.
