It's really down to peoples preference. Some people will say that Invision is better. I personally think that VBulletin is the best forum software available however there are loads out there.

People will say IPB, But its down to the users choice.

The majority of people will say no, vBulletin is the best. That's also my view.

I prefer IPB, most vB features came after the IPB ones plus IPB is easier to use. It's down to choice though.

None are better than any other to be fair - it's preference.

SMF is as good as vB just as phpBB is as good as IPB.

Being honest, many forum types are great. Theres something good about each one of them. Not that I know them - others will! But I prefer MyBB and hate YABB.

IP.Board (IPB or Invision), by far the easiest to use, has the best features, it's the fastest and it has the cleanest code.

phpBB2 is your best bet for learning (IMO), it does not need linux, it has the largest database of add-ons and because of its already long lifetime, it has a massive and helpful user-base in its support forums.

Another reason to use phpBB2 is it will allow you to get to know the community.
If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : free forum hosting (http://www.forumotion.com)

Hope this can help!

I would say IPB and vB are equal and both just as good although IPB has a bigger library of official plug ins but vB has a bigger library of free, unofficial plug ins and a fantastic modification community.

In terms of security and stability both are just as good. Feature set wise they are just as good. vB has features IPB doesn't have and the same vise versa.

In my opinion, vBulletin opens a large range of future ideas and allows you to expand into many diverse directions! Thats why i feel vBulletin is the best!

I've a real soft spot for open source, so it's either phpBB or MyBB. Seeing you just make a MYSQL and you're done, I think you can get the job done.

IPB is more expensive isn't it?

phpBB is good, and free. But there are not alot of good skins for it.
vBulletin has loads of nice skins.

Excellent

IPB is great if you have the funds available, much better in coding forms aswell.. but if you want a decent easy to edit forum on a low budget go for vBulletin.

InvisionFree is awesome though :( If you have the right graphical & CSS knowledge you can do great things with it. You don't need huge rep systems tbh, there's no point in them. I'm not sure if IF is called ZetaBoards now actually, but it's just about the same but upgraded a bit better lol.

Try it out.

Invision Board, MyBB, PHPBB, vBulliten are all powerful forum hosters.

The best, imho are;

•MyBB•
•vBulletin•

•MyBB ~ Free, and like vB.
•Costs a little, but well worth it.
