Well hello people, as your may well know, iv'e done a few projects in my time.

-Bring an old laptop to modern standards
- Combine 4 computers into one
-upgrade this pc

all simple, as i'm still busy with myteenmedia, but today / tomorrow im going to try and set up a linux server, as i type it is downloading, slowly xD.

I will be using the 4 computers i combined which is sitting in my garage. I hope it will be a fun project and well i shall post some pictures / show you when its online. I'm hopping to make a hosting / webmail server.

Thanks for reading, wish my luck.

Tom
CEO myteenmedia

P.s Im using xubuntu.

I don't think combining 4 computers as servers is the right way to go, unless you network 3 to work on a 1 database in the middle and then thread/retrieve data through each. Your internet upload speed has to be quite high to be honest or loading sites from your server will be very slow.

Jhames i don't think you understood what i ment. I had 3 spare pcs in my garage, then i use bits from each one to make one big pc, ie hdd from 2 of them cpu from one gfx from another etc.

Im going to make that ONE into a server.

Lol that rejestered user is me. i only set it up yesterday and im stil making it all. :p

Aww, I wish my little rack looked like them :( All i got is some standard 31" rack rails, 24 port patch panel to wire everything up, (5) 500gb hds in raid 5, also mirroring the drives for the OS (server 2003) and another 300gb drive for backups also another network drive i haven't rigged up (500gb) for backups in the future. Good for routing and limiting internet usage around my house that only has 4 computers. LOL

Can't forget the 2 little rack servers I built up for it - Tho I dont use them.

I don't have any servers now, the one I had was Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, and I got fed up with that, and installed Windows Home Server, and got fed up with that, so now that server is sitting packed up.

Heh, cool - I wouldn't touch WS3003 with a long rod.

@thread starter..mousey?:

How did you link together the computers this is what I'm doing.

I recently got a lot of money... so:

This is to be my setup:
1 8-core Mac Pro
8 iMac G3's purchasable for 20-100$ each.
2 23" Apple HD Displays

The idea is to utilize the iMac's as a render farm but not actually use them to render...

How many times do people have to say this, read the ******* thread.

He said he took parts from the computers, and combined them to make one, not hooked them together. fgs.

Yes, his reason is his opinion.

Charlie, go bum in a corner with Darren Toogood, show him your divs
while he shows you his photography. You can be best friends.

Yes you did, this isn't a showoff what you are getting thread.

And you didn't even know what a MAC could do until you visited this forum.

Once the project is complete be sure to post up the final specs. Sounds like a fun project. All my computers (old) are windows 95/98 hardly worth the bother. With ROM I think the 95' which is, useless to say the least. Anyway good luck.
