View Full Version : What do you do with your dead pet?

Hi all
When your pets die, like hamsters or fish etc, do you throw them in the bin or something like that?

See, I am a keen tropical fish keeper, and I consider them as real pets, so I bury them in the garden when they die. Mum thinks I should put fish in the toilet but I think thats disrespectful. With all pets, regardless of size, I would bury them in the garden. There's a little patch of garden where I can bury them, there's quite a lot there.

So, do you bury pets or throw them in the bin?

Discuss :)

How far down did you bury your cat? I would imagine a few foot to stop it smelling after a week or two? And was it in a box/coffin to try prevent smell?

People say fish go down the toilet, but they are little lives too :) I mean, would you want to go down the toilet when you die?

And if you dont put fish in a box, just in the mud, after a few weeks if another one died you can put it in the same place the last one was because the decomposition has already taken place seeing as its a small fish in contact with soil.

You found a dead frog and buried it? Cant say I have heard of that before, but it's caring of you :)

Imagine after 6 months of so what it would look like if it was taken up.. I done that to a fish a while back now and it was like its skin, saw bits of a skeleton, and all this brown liquid surrounding it in a plastic box. It stunk of rotting eggs so I put it back and was like.. eww.. Still, all in the name of science :P

Thousands of humans and animals are cremated everyday. I think being buried is sick because of the fact that the body decomposes, rots and is eaten by maggots and other bugs/insects.

I disagree there.
My nan died 2 weeks ago and we got her cremated last week.
It made me feel more upset as i had the thought that she was being burnt.

But then again, If they did bury her body i suppose if i went to see her i might think "her body is down there"
So 50/50 on that :)

And with my pet's i have only had my hamster die and my dad put it in the bin. I was like :O!!!!!
But then again if we buried it the dogs might dig it up.

Anyway, I haven't had a pet in a while and I don't remember what I did in the past. I wouldn't put a hamster in the bin with all the repulsive rubbish because I find that disrespectful (even though it's dead). A fish down the toilet isn't as bad mind, unless the toilet has skid marks....
