In the iTunes Store under Films, you can rent movies for £3.49 if new releases then £2.49 if not new. Got an email about it from Apple.

The customers will only have up to 30 days to start watching it and once you have started the movie, you will have 48 hours to finish it.

Rip off! I was hoping it'd be cheaper, how long does it rent them for?

I ment, it would be easy to rip the movie and keep it forever. :)

Most likely from the USA then, since they were one of the first to get them like always. =]

You're missing out the point that you can buy them too now. Also, I think the price is OK, however I think renting is pointless cos why pay half the amount the film would actually be to only see it a couple of times? I'd rather pay full and keep it forever.

Wrong I think, I saw on MacRumors or somewhere they we only get 48 hours to start watching it and finish it.

America get their films for a fiver. We get them for £7!

I very much doubt you can crack them, it'll be DRM and encrypted to a high standard. Can you put movie rentals on your iPod? And surely providing you don't sync your iPod for a while, you could rent a movie and have it on your iPod for ages? The renting prices are good it's just a shame the two films I want to see are 'Buy' only :(

The prices are quiet good I mean what, £10 for I am Legend for example. Well I think there good anyway.

Whats wrong with you people? Its really cheap. Blockbuster charge like £4 for all films, £2.50s cheap by comparison and its much easier to get them. You can also buy the films for like £7 if they are older releases and I think its £10 if they are new. Im testing this out with 300 tonight.

Or y'know you could just download the films in high definition and keep them forever by paying the low low price of £12~ a month for Giganews access.

I was speaking to a friend last night about this.

Its good, it wont be long before iTunes will be one of the best Movie Retailers in the world, or atleast in the US, like they are with Music.

The prices are good. People still think its 10 quid to rent, they need to read it first. 2pound (or something) to rent right, a newer movie?

But yeah, looks good. I wont use it as I prefer getting the movie extras on disk :< Im sad. But yeah, well done and good luck apple.

Yes, but i don't think everybody has room for every movie to be 12GB.

Well listen to this. 1080p is the res 1920 x 1200, right? Or something like that. Only 24" monitors and above can support that kind of res. So thefore if you have anything below that, downloading 1080p would be pointless becuase you'd never see the full quality of the movie - it would just get scaled down so much you'd have big black lines above and below the image.

Also, they may be 720p movies but at 1.47GB.. god, the picture must be awful compared to a 5GB one.

this has HDMI output so I could put onto the 32" behind me.

I think the prices are outrageous to rent and buy a movie. To rent it's almost twice as much and to buy is even more! £3.50 approx to buy in America and yet they charge us £10 here! Absolutely stupid. I would rather go through the trouble of renting and ripping a dvd rather than pay such absurd prices, I bet the rental time is only about a week aswell.

Heard of different tax rates once they sell things in the UK? But Stutoman, nearly everything that gets released in the USA then gets brought out over here is dearer. Eg. Windows Vista, was like that. (Not the OEM versions.)

I rented iRobot and it was a 2 hour download, I got an hour into the download then clicked 'Pause all' as I was about to go, it then went 'iTunes has stopped working', it then closes it, and then when I load it up the movie has gone from Downloads and 'Rented movies' and I have to pay to rent it again, what can I do?

Also on Vista does anyone else regularly get 'iTunes has stopped working' messages?

Well you contact Apple explaining your situation. You normally get an email to your account set up in iTunes with a receipt.

Usually you can download it again if it's still in your rental period and then it will say you've already downloaded this are you sure you want to download it again? It lets you download a music track 5 times and then you have to pay again if you download it any more.
