View Full Version : News Department Forum Addition
I think for the news department they should have their own section to post the news they publish onto the site into the forum aswell so people can be kept up to date with the news in a proffessional, detailed manner! :D

Or I can just go to bbc news.
Yeah, because BBC report news on Habbo UK Hotel and International Habbo Hotels :rolleyes:

It's perfectly fine as it is, and doesn't need changing.

... that section isn't really detailed.

I suppose it's better if they're written by an actual person :D
All the news staff have to do is copy and paste what they have published on Habbox.com onto the forum.
I think it would just make the forum look very ott with the amount of forums

ooh no way! I find them so annoying!
I disagree with the idea because I just think it would be best to keep it all on the main site and not clutter up the forums with something that's already available to everyone. :D

The problem with doing this is that many will simply reply on the forum to view news and the news section on Habbox itself may very well become neglected. This really will defy the whole objective of having a service offered to Habbox site users and may draw less traffic to the site itself.
I also don't feel that it takes much effort to simply click on a News tab to obtain news. Lastly, like --SS-- stated above, if forum users wish to obtain Habbo UK or Habbo International news they can do so by viewing threads created in the Habbo forum category.

Some very good answers here. I think Elliott just feels that Habbo News should have more prominance on the forum. The question we have to ask is how many members visit the site as much as they visit the forum? I don't know the answer to that but others might. When I visit the site there is a link to the forum which is especially useful for those visiting the site for the first time. What about having a reverse link from the forum to the site at the top of the forum. Being a bit techless I am not sure if that is possible but it would mean that the forum advertises the site and vice versa.

There's always one at the bottom next to the contact us form

Just goes to show how often I look at the bottom of the page! Thanks. :)
One learns something new every day. Maybe consider moving it to an more prominant place and re-naming it Habbox.Com?

Tbh, you're right! I don't look at the bottom of the page either but I just know from other sites that it was there.
I dunno where you'd move it without making the forum look untidy?

Doesn't need to be, that forum works perfectly fine the way it is now. Adding another forum just for the same threads, written differently, would be a waste of time, effort and would look awful.
And if we post on the forum then less people will read our posts on main site :)
To be fair, the news on the front page doesn't get all that much attention, i think having it on the forum, where we KNOW people are active and are likely to read it it would boost the news team really

You can make it so the forum usergroup - News Reporter, can only post/reply which would stop pointless/hurtful comments fullstop.

Yessss =]
I just think that the forum should have this, to get the news read.
To be honest, the UK news and rumours section gets spammed alot and pointless news it posted and when some news is posted it basically turns into a flame war where the thread ends up getting closed plus some people just copy and paste what is on the Habbo website, not giving any extra detail or information.
I think having the news forum would look really good and proffesional and then when you look through the history of it, you see all these details and information filled news stories giving a full explanation of the current happenings and extra dib-ins on how to enter competitions etc etc =) Also in news opinions are given which aren't really given on the Habbo site or in UK News and rumours, well i suppose there is but if there was a news sections the opinions would be well thought out and presented nicely with and fully grammar checked so it's easy to be read by all.

Yes. That would be a phenomenal incentive however, that still doesn't solve the problem of having less traffic directed to Habbox itself and then of course the possibility of having the News section neglected.
Also, I cant see how it will stop 'pointless/hurtful' comments being made because the Habbo UK and International forums will still be open for posting even if an additional section had to be added. News reporters are not forum moderators.
Lastly, many forum members enjoy keeping the Habbo forums up to date with news from the hotels themselves and by implementing something of this nature, it takes away a firm tradition many users have become accustom to for ages now.
On another note, your feedback really is appreciated e5. It's fantastic to see people like you putting effort into making positive changes to Habbox :).

I think this would be a good idea, but perhaps it could be compromised. Keeping the news on Habbox.com is a must! People like going to Habbox.com and getting rare values on the top, and news on the bottom, also very active news reporters deserve to have their names on the home page (such as Mrs.McCall, who is fantastic with posting news). I do believe that perhaps once the user clicks "read more" it redirects them to a thread on Habbox Forum coresponding to the article, where they can read the rest of the story, and comment neatly below. I believe this way many forum users would give much more feadback on the news. Yes, users would be able to read the news on the forum, but they already can anyways (Also if a user posts a news article in the current news forum, the thread could just be moved into the fullstory news section, and the initial HxF user would get full credit, for discovering a good story). The majority of Habbo users use Habbox for rare values too, setting the news up like this would hardly affect hits to Habbox.com. The suggestion is good.

I have to admit that I normally look at the News Forums before actually visiting the related hotels. It then gives me the chance to do numerous things such as:
Obviously read over the article;
Get an insight on what the community feel on this, giving me/us the chance to write articles based around the general opinion on the news;
The international section helps us find news, we might not of actually seen ourselves.I do like your idea, however I feel that other members should have the opportunity to post articles and discuss them along with each other.
Yeah they can also do that but the news section would just be an addition where you will find well written work not just "o god wot they dun dis tym?" followed by a quote of the article. It's just like having the news on Habbox.com and the UK news and rumours section, but this time they can read the news on Habbox.com on the forum site.
Thanks for all of your feedback

If I'm correct, the comments system is currently disabled because of people posting pointlessly on it, so using the forum as a comments system would kill two birds with one rather sharp stone. I really like that idea, have some rep. The only problem I can see is having to have the article posted once on joomla, and again on the forum, which will be extremely time cosuming. I'd also question the technical possibility of linking the "read more" button to a forum account, I'm no techie though. With fine tuning, that could work quite well and bring a lot more traffic to the forum as well as keeping the news on habbox.

I dont really see the point, they post detailed news on the front page of www.habbox.com if you post on the forum then the news on the main site would be pointless? It wont take much more effort to open a new tab and type in www.habbox.com to get to the news than if it were to be in a forum and you hunting for it.
Not many people visit the Habbox site as much as the forum, so for their benefit it would be a good idea

Then shouldn't we be trying them to go to the homepage instead of bring all the attention to the forum? :P.
I guess so, so maybe link to the homepage...
Make a forum called "Habbox News" and link to http://www.habbox.com/site//content/blogsection/1/95/

All the news staff have to do is copy and paste what they have published on Habbox.com onto the forum.
And all forum users have to do is key in www.habbox.com to their browsers and either check the home, or news pages.
To copy and paste every bit of news between site and forum is a complete waste of bandwidth and server space tbh.
I dont like the idea for all the reasons stated above - maybe we could just have a link to Habbox News?
You can make it so the forum usergroup - News Reporter, can only post/reply which would stop pointless/hurtful comments fullstop.
But then users cant have their say on what they think is right or not.
I do believe that perhaps once the user clicks "read more" it redirects them to a thread on Habbox Forum coresponding to the article, where they can read the rest of the story, and comment neatly below
I disagree as thats just a waste of time - You should keep it on the same page. It is also alot easier for us news reporters to do what I just said. That would also mean that Yum would have to go through loads of trouble - get rid of the "main story" section and make the "read more" section link to a certain part in the forum - it is also hard as Yum wont know where to link the "read more" section ;)
And all forum users have to do is key in www.habbox.com to their browsers and either check the home, or news pages.

Yeah but the thing is.. they don't.
